Berita Segmen

Like the previous series, the News segment of Series 12 shows two running jokes. The first is the comeback of previous jokes about Dacia Sandero, with Clarkson making the announcement about it with fake enthusiasm, many of which utter indifference from May. The second is that one host often appears in a segment wearing something unusual, with one of the other hosts asking if they did it for bets.

Criticism and Controversy

HGV Challenge "Prostitutes" jokes

During the first episode of the series, Jeremy Clarkson made a joke about a truck driver who killed a prostitute. After the episode broadcast, the joke invited criticism, with many believing that it was offensive to the 2006 Ipswich chain murder in which a forklift truck driver was arrested and charged with the murder of five women who had worked as prostitutes, although some believed it was more likely that Clarkson was referring to the Yorkshire Ripper. Ofcom received more than 500 complaints regarding the joke, but revealed that the statement did not violate the broadcasting code. Meanwhile, Labor MP Chris Mole wrote a letter out loud to the BBC, stating that Clarkson should be fired in respect of his statements.

Movie review of Tesla Roadster

During the seventh episode, Top Gear reviewed and tested the battery-powered Tesla Roadster (2008), where Clarkson pointed out, after rigorous testing, that the batteries on the Roadster quickly run out and that the car is having mechanical problems. Tesla fought these findings after the episode, and provided log data from the car show during the show to Top Gear and the BBC, which led both to reveal in a statement to the media that the car was not actually damaged and never went under 20 percent cost. Nevertheless, Clarkson writes articles for The Sunday Times, following dozens of blogs and newspapers challenging Top Gear about the Roadster performance, where she stands with the contents of the episode.
