Driving license in Israel comes in twelve types, similar to the European SIM (although there is a small difference). To receive a license, each applicant must pass a medical and eye examination, and a theory test, before taking a number of practical lessons culminating in a practical test.

- Licenses A2, A1 and A - for two-wheeled vehicles, with horse power limits set at:

- C1, C - truck,

D3 for private minibus up to 5 ton, D2 for public minibus with same tonnage limit, D1 for public transport vehicle with up to 16 passengers, and D for bus.
- C E - for commercial motor vehicles, up to 3.5 tonnes (including attachments)
- 1- - for tractors (not included in EU standards)

Passenger car license
Anyone who is at least 16 years and 9 months old may receive a Type B license. Upon receiving a medical and eye examination, an applicant can take 30 multiple choice questions, which must answer at least 26 correctly. Before taking the actual driving test, they must receive at least 28 lessons in a certified driving school. After passing the internal driving school test, the instructor will arrange a road test, which will be taken in the driving school vehicle. If a person fails on a written or driving test, one has to wait one day before taking a written test, but the current waiting time is to take a second uncertain driving test, ranging from three to six months. After the driving test is bypassed, the licensing authority will issue a temporary license along with the payment voucher. After the fees have been paid, the actual license will be sent by post.
During the first three months, the new license holder must be accompanied by a person over the age of 24, who has been licensed for at least 5 years, or a person older than 30 years old, who has been licensed for more than 3 years. Over the next three months new drivers must be accompanied by someone (with the same specifications as before) in the evening, which means from 9 March. up to 6 A.M.. after three months, the new driver who accompanied the person must sign a temporary license so he can get a permanent one. In addition, during the first two years, the new driver must hang the punctuation mark "New Driver" (Hebrew: ????? ?, Nahag Hadash ) in black letters with a yellow background. Anyone who does not comply with these requirements should be fined and tried in a traffic court for driving without a license. If a new driver violates traffic laws, a person may be required to take back a written test and drive.

New immigrants, tourists, temporary residents and returning citizens after living abroad for at least a year may be driving in Israel with a foreign permit for one year from entry into Israel.
Convert license
Anyone who has a foreign driver's license staying in Israel for more than 12 months should convert their SIM. On August 13, 2017, any immigrant holding a SIM 5 years before his or her immergression can convert it without taking the test. [1] The applicant must undergo a medical examination and eye examination. After registering at the local licensing authority's office for the exemption of a written test and the requirement for 28 lessons, one must pay a test at the local post office, and the instructor will arrange a short driving test. Prior to May 13, 2014 if the applicant fails in two tests, he/she must pass a written test before taking a thorough driving test. Legislation passed by the Knesset on that date, however, allows licensed foreign drivers to re-take unlimited tests within the first three years after aliyah.
