For the use of the phrase "with inspection" in math, see Mathematical jargon list # Technique proof.

Examination is, most commonly, an organized check or a formal evaluation exercise. In the examination of engineering activities involves measurements, tests, and verifiers applied to certain characteristics in terms of an object or activity. The results are usually compared to the specified requirements and standards to determine whether the goods or activities are in compliance with these targets, often with Standard Inspection Procedures in place to ensure consistent checks. Inspection is usually not damaging.

Inspection can be either visual inspection or involving sensing technology such as ultrasonic testing, performed with direct or remote physical presence such as remote visual inspection, and manually or automatically such as automatic optical inspection. Non-contact optical measurements and Photogrammetry have become common NDT methods for examination of manufactured components and design optimization.

The review of the Scottish Government in 2007 on the supervision of public services (Crear Review, 2007 [1]) defines the inspection of public services as "... regular and purposeful inspections of certain services, to check whether they meet national and local performance standards, legislative requirements and professional, and service user needs. "

Surprise checks tend to have different results than the published checks. Leaders who want to know how other people's performance within their organization can stop by without warning, to see firsthand what's going on. If a check is known beforehand, it can give people a chance to cover or fix the error. This can lead to distorted and inaccurate findings. Sudden inspection, therefore, gives the inspector a better picture of the typical state of the object or process being examined than the published inspection. It also increases the external confidence in the inspection process. See Section 4.12 of the Crear report.

Manufacturing

Quality related inspection/verification in process is an important part of quality control in manufacturing.

Inspection in manufacturing includes measuring, testing, testing, or measuring one or more characteristics of a product or process and comparing results with the specified requirements to determine whether requirements are met for each characteristic. Common examples of inspection by measurement or measurement include using a caliper or micrometer to determine whether the dimensions of the manufactured part are within the dimensional tolerances specified in the drawings for that part, and thus acceptable for use.

Design for Inspection (DFI) is a concept that should complement and work with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DMA) to reduce product production costs and improve manufacturing practicability.

Photogrammetry is a modern way of visual inspection, providing high accuracy and traceability for various industries. Portable 3D systems are versatile optical coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) with various capabilities. Very accurate point measurements can be made with inspections made directly to the CAD model, geometry or images. (DFI)

Fire Equipment

Most fire extinguishers need to be checked to make sure that there is a fire, all efforts have been made to ensure it is not out of control. The fire extinguisher should be checked monthly by law and inspected by the service company at least annually. Fire extinguishers can be heavy, so it is a good idea to practice taking and holding fire extinguishers to get an idea of weight and flavor.

Business

In international trade some destination countries require pre-shipment inspection. The importer instructs the sender that the inspection company should use. The Inspector makes drawings and reports to certify that the goods shipped and produced conform to the accompanying documents.

Commodity inspection is another term used between buyers and sellers. The scope of work for commodity inspection depends on the buyer. Some buyers hire inspection agents only for pre-shipment inspection, ie visual quality checks, quantity, packing, marking and loading and others requesting higher level inspections and requesting inspection bodies to attend at sellers' shops and checking commodities during the manufacturing process. Usually the inspection is done on the basis of agreed inspection and test plan (ITP).

Government

In government and politics, an examination is an act of the monitoring authority that manages the official review of various criteria (such as documents, facilities, records, and other assets) deemed by authorities to be associated with the examination. Inspection is used for the purpose of determining whether the body obeys the rules. The examiner checks the criteria and talks to the individuals involved. A report and evaluation follow such a visit.

The Food Safety Inspection Service is charged to ensure that all meat and egg products in the United States are safe to consume and labeled accurately. The Meat Inspection Act of 1906 authorized the Agriculture Secretary to order a meat inspection and condemn any found unfit for human consumption. The United Nations Monitor, Verification and Inspection Commission is a regulatory body that examines weapons of mass destruction. The Scottish Commission for Care Regulations regulates and checks care services in Scotland.

Vehicle

Vehicle inspections, eg annual inspections, are necessary inspections of vehicles to comply with safety laws, emissions, or both. It consists of inspection of vehicle components, usually performed by certified mechanics. The vehicle passes a pre-warranty inspection, if, and only if, the mechanic provides evidence for the exact working conditions of the vehicle system specified in this type of inspection.

Engineering, mechanical

Mechanical inspection is usually done to ensure the safety or reliability of structures or machines.

In Europe the bodies involved in technical inspection may be assessed by accrediting bodies in accordance with ISO 17020 "General criteria for the operation of various types of bodies conducting examinations". This standard defines inspection as "the examination of a product, process, service, or installation or design of them and the determination of its compliance with special requirements or, on the basis of professional judgment, on general terms".

Non-destructive examination (NDE) or nondestructive testing (NDT) is a family of technologies used during inspection to analyze materials, components and products either for congenital defects (such as fractures or cracks), or defects caused by services (damage from use). Some common methods are visual, industrial tomography scanning, microscopy, penetrating penetration inspection, magnetic particle examination, X-ray or radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, acoustic emission testing, and thermographic inspection. In addition, many non-destructive checks can be performed on a precision scale, or when moving, checkweigher. Stereo microscopes are often used to inspect small products such as circuit boards for product defects.

Inspection and technical assistance during turnaround help reduce costly downtime and ensure quick and safe resumption of operations. [2]

Medical

A medical examination is a thorough and unhurried visualization of the patient, this requires the use of the naked eye.

Military

Inspection ships are aircraft used to inspect vessels entering or leaving port during the war time.

Railroad

Railway inspection locomotives are a special type of steam locomotive designed to bring railroad officials on railroad property inspection tours.

Real estate

Assessment of property conditions is a check for the purpose of evaluating the condition of commercial or business property often as part of a due diligence investigation for the company to know what to buy. Building code officers conduct building inspections to determine code compliance in new or modified buildings before issuing residential certificates. Residential inspection is not for code compliance is called home inspection. There are many types of real estate inspections and more specific infrastructure such as hurricane inspections, energy audits, and pipeline video inspection.

Software engineering

Software inspection, in software engineering, refers to peer review of each work product by trained individuals seeking defects using well-defined processes.
