Love City An industry journal 1859 was among the first to record nickname for Atlanta, Georgia:

An orator claimed for it the marking of a town between the hills while an author has declared it to be the opposite of the "rus in urbe" ("the state of the city" ) and proclaimed "'a forest city' .

Since then, the city has known many nicknames. Today, The ATL , and The A are the most common.

SWATS

SWATS , SWATS or SWATS ("Southwest Atlanta, too strong") is, on the street, hip-hop, or local context, Southwest Atlanta , plus an area stretching to adjacent towns from College Park and East Point. The term "SWATS" became popular around 1996 and was initially popularized by LaFace Records OutKast and Goodie Mob groups. This is the same time that "ATL" became popular as a nickname for Atlanta as a whole.
