src: i.ytimg.com

Chi'Lantro BBQ is a Korean mobile fusion truck and a Korean catering service that opened in Austin, Texas in 2010. Since then, the former trucking operation has opened four restaurants in the Austin area, with 5 opening locations in autumn 2016. The name "Chi'Lantro" is a fusion of "kimchi" and "cilantro", two different cultural subjects, aimed at rediscovering traditional Korean and Mexican cuisine. They are locally known as the originator of dishes known as "Kimchi Fries".

Histori

In February 2010, the business was opened by Jae Kim, who was born in Korea and moved to the US when he was eleven years old. He graduated from California State University, Fullerton and opened his first food business at the age of twenty-one, a coffee shop called "Foothill Cafà © Å ©", which he had for three years. She moved to the "culturally diverse" Austin area to open a trucking business, at the age of twenty-six.

The food truck operation initially only served the Austin and Fort Hood, Texas areas, developed outside the Austin market in early 2012 with a food truck service in Houston, which was discontinued in December 2014 with the announcement that the business was looking for a restaurant space.

On January 19, 2015, a restaurant in front of a shop in Austin opened and in March, plans for a second location in May, were announced.

Operation Style

Before opening a restaurant location, the business serves primarily as a moving kitchen or food truck. Trucks make scheduled stops in the mornings, evenings and evenings in a very commercial area, in areas that appeal to consumers in the white-collar workforce, in addition to manual workers, stereotypical customers for such a company. Examples of stops include industry-technology hubs such as Google offices, NCSoft, and BioWare. The other part of the service is catering for parties, corporate events, promotions, weddings, festivals, conventions, and various major social events in the area.

In January 2015, small brick and mortar locations were opened, adding meal options-to their outdoor service.

Beginning April 18, 2016 all bricks and mortar Chi'lantro will not accept cash. All locations support Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and all major credit and debit cards.

Internet and Social Media Usage

The business takes advantage of many social media applications such as Twitter, Foursquare, Yelp, and Facebook to connect with the "tech savvy" customer base. Publishing a tweet informs customers about where each truck will be placed. The trucks are one of many national food trucks to pioneer the use of Android and Apple mobile devices for credit card transactions and financial organizations. They are popular on YouTube for a series of ads targeted to his fans: It's Good, Fries Like G6 and Chi'Lantrofied!

In November 2016, founder Jae Kim appeared in Season 8 Episode 8 of ABC's Shark Tank and earned a $ 600,000 investment from Barbara Corcoran for a 20% stake in Chi'Lantro BBQ.
