Histori

In 1965, Ralph L. "Larry" Roberts I bought a truck he used to carry furniture. The business grew with the purchase of intrastate and interstate authorities from Mayflower Moving and Storage, becoming RL Carriers, Inc. When the early 1980s brought deregulation to the trucking industry with the Motorcycle Transport Act of 1980, the company became incorporated in connection with the new system design that produced the birth of R L Transfer, Inc.

The initial operation was contained within Ohio, but soon expanded to five other Midwestern and Southern states. The acquisition of Gator Freightways Inc., in May 1989, further expands the company in the South. Growth continues with the purchase of Greenwood Motor Lines, Inc. in April 1992. In March 1996, the company purchased Herder Truck Lines, Inc., a Texas-based company, and the expansion increased. Over the next five years, terminals and services were added to New York City and 23 other states. Soon thereafter, the total coverage to New York State was achieved and partnerships to provide services to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and Puerto Rico developed. The expanded coverage in Western countries laid the foundation for continued growth in 2003 brought the opening of six additional Western countries and another in 2005. The expansion continued in 2006 when operations began in Oregon and Washington. The last phase of expansion came in the spring of 2007 with an expansion into northern California. These include service centers in Fresno's three major markets, Sacramento, and Oakland. The expansion will quickly continue into Southern California with facilities in Fontana and Los Angeles that complete the expansion of the west coast which provides full coverage of the country. R L Carriers sends an average of 45,000 shipments to these areas per day.
