Alamodome is a large capacity 64,000 capacity seating facility used as soccer, basketball, soccer, baseball stadiums and convention centers. It is located in the southeast suburb of Downtown San Antonio, Texas, United States. The facility opened on May 15, 1993, built at a cost of US $ 186 million.
The multi-purpose facility is intended to increase city convention traffic and attract professional football franchises. It also eases the demands of the San Antonio Spurs for the bigger arena. Spurs played at Alamodome for a decade, then became disillusioned with the facilities and convinced Bexar County to build a new arena for them, now called AT & amp; T Center. The largest regular renter in Alamodome today is UTSA Roadrunners.

Features
The facility is a rectangular 5-level stadium that can accommodate up to 64,000 spectators for a typical and expandable football game to accommodate 72,000 spectators, allowing the possibility of hosting the Super Bowl.
The stadium is designed to be easily converted into a basketball or hockey arena. Changing the stadium for basketball and hockey takes 12-18 hours to prepare a retractable seat and install a play surface. In this configuration, usually only two lower levels on one or both ends are used. The arena configuration holds 20,662 viewers, but can be expanded up to 39,500 when the top level is opened.
Alamodome opens with 38 luxury suites and 6,000 club level seats. The original design specifications call for 66 luxury suites. However, since Spurs were the only full-time tenant at the time, only 38 luxury suites at the north end of the facility were built. Footprints for 28 luxury suites that are not built are open floor space right behind club level chairs that surround the southern end of the facility. In 2006, Alamodome expanded to accommodate 14 new luxury suites. The Sports Club Club and Top of the Dome restaurant also received a renovation in 2004.
Alamodome has two permanent size Olympic ice rinks that can be used for NHL games, figure skating and speed skating. The facility also contains 30,000 square feet (2,800m 2 ) meeting space and 160,000 square feet (15,000m 2 ) of continuous exhibition space.

Events and tenants
The Alamodome is currently home to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Roadrunners. Previously, it was home to the San Antonio Spurs from the NBA from 1993 to 2002, and the San Antonio Texans from CFL in 1995. The stadium will be home to the San Antonio franchise of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) starting in February 2019.
The facility also hosts special events such as the annual Alamo Bowl football game, UTSA graduation ceremony, as well as most of the ISD high school graduation ceremonies at Northside.
Country high school playoff play games are regularly held at Alamodome, including championship matches in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
NBA Basket
The ability of Alamodome to easily accommodate basketball made it appealing to Spurs' current owners, Red McCombs, who had been looking for time for a bigger arena to replace their old home, HemisFair Arena. Spurs moved to Alamodome after the 1992-93 NBA season. They played nine seasons at Alamodome from 1993 to 2002, including their first NBA championship season, played against the New York Knicks in 1999.
During the regular season, most of the top levels are limited. However, on certain weekends and when popular opponents come to town, Spurs expand the capacity of Alamodome to 35,000 by opening three top-level parts. More parts of the top level opened for the playoffs, extending the capacity to 39,500. Attendance is 39,514 for Game 1 of 1999 NBA Finals and 39,554 for Game 2.
Although the late 1990s saw Spurs surging in popularity, a decision was made to move the team out of the vast stadium and build a new arena. While Alamodome has been designed to accommodate basketball, it's primarily a football stadium. As time goes by, the management and fans of Spurs are increasingly dissatisfied with the poor line of sight and broad feeling. Part of the problem is the way in which Alamodome is configured for basketball. The basketball court was at one end of the stands while standing on one side of the field, leaving more than half the stadium closed (similar problems and configurations occurred for the Detroit Pistons in the mid-1980s during their lease at Pontiac Silverdome). Television broadcast trucks are usually installed on half the unused surface. In comparison, more modern domed stadiums that can accommodate basketball, such as the AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, place a basketball court in the middle where a soccer field will, allow for a much larger presence. In addition, Spurs tied Alamodome for much of winter and spring as they played deep playoffs (they only missed the playoffs once in their nine years there). With Alamodome posting well into April, it is difficult to accommodate conventions, concerts or even prospective football teams. Moving Spurs out of Alamodome opens a closer date allowing the facility to schedule more events, even though it has not yet hosted the Super Bowl. Spurs moved to the new SBC Center after the 2001-02 season.
The 1996 NBA All-Star Game was played at Alamodome.

The Saints play Buffalo Bills (week 4), Atlanta Falcons (week 6), and Detroit Lions (week 16) at Alamodome. While there have been many NFL preseason games held in San Antonio for years, these games are the first regular seasonal NFL game played in the city. The Saints also played the 2005 season's "home" games at the Giants Stadium (against New York Giants) in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and four others at LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Overall, the Saints averaged 62,665 fans at Alamodome 64,000 seats for the three games held there, showing solid despite the short notice to sell tickets due to the storm. The Saints and NFL announced that the team would return to Louisiana for the 2006 season even though at the time the NFL was not sure where they would play their home game.

In addition, former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue points out that if the NFL expands again, San Antonio will be on a short list of candidate cities. The cowboy owner, Jerry Jones, has acknowledged his support for the city's efforts to be home to the NFL franchise even though public opinion is that he will never let go of his team's presence in the San Antonio market.
Dallas Cowboys held their pre-season training camp in 2002, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011 at Alamodome.
On July 29, 2014, it was reported by San Antonio Express-News that Mark Davis met with officials from the city of San Antonio, Texas, to discuss the possibility of relocating the Raiders to San Antonio. Davis confirmed that he was speaking with San Antonio city officials while visiting San Antonio in honor of former recipients of wide raiders of Cliff Branch induction into the local Hall of Fame, but did not comment whether he was considering relocating to San Antonio. If the Raiders had moved to San Antonio, Alamodome would almost certainly be used as a temporary home until a newly built NFL stadium. The Raiders decided not to move to San Antonio, first proposed unsuccessful to return home earlier in Los Angeles, then finally received permission to move to Las Vegas in 2020. In September 2017, San Antonio was identified as a potential temporary home for the Raiders. if they are expelled from their current stadium, the Oakland Coliseum, before their new Las Vegas stadium is over.
Canadian football and soccer arena
Alamodome is also home to the San Antonio Texans for the 1995 CFL season. The stadium appealed to the Canadian Football League (which made an unlucky attempt to expand into the US between 1993 and 1995) because it is one of America's rare facilities that can fully accommodate the CFL playing field which is bigger and, just recently opened, is one of the most modern facilities in the league where the majority of teams play in stadiums that are decades old or less fit. Seats can be pulled to fit 65 yards wide and 150 meters long from Canadian football field rules.
In the first CFL playoff game ever played between two US-based franchises, the Texas troops beat Birmingham Barracudas 52-9 at Alamodome on 5 November. The team then lost to the eventual champion, Baltimore Stallions 21-11 in Baltimore on 11 November. The Texas nation folded after the 1995 season; teams have an honorable presence and manageable financial losses, but widespread dysfunction among most of the rest of the league leads to team death. As a result, the November 11 game is the last meaningful CFL game that has been played in the United States.
From 2012 to 2014, Alamodome is home to the San Antonio Talons of the Arena Football League, which moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2011.

Remodeling

After the election of Phil Hardberger as the new mayor, the efforts were abandoned, although renovations approved for the facility will continue as planned. Preliminary estimates mention the cost of repairs reaching $ 100-150 million.
In September 2010, Alamodome inaugurated a new seating configuration called the Illusions Theater, which occupies the northern half of the stadium. Seating floors can be configured to accommodate up to 1,000 seats with plaza, club, and upper deck seating levels added as needed to provide up to 15,000 seats.
