The program is supported by state and federal funds as part of Delaware's efforts to maintain air quality. RideShare works in partnership with local and regional agencies to meet Federal Air Quality Standards. It helps shape both the car pool and the van pool. It also offers a special program for Delaware students and employers.

History

RideShare Delaware was founded in 1997 by Delaware Department of Transportation. Starting in 2005, RideShare Delaware participated in cross promotions along with Delaware E-ZPass to drive commuters to carpool as well as using E-ZPass transponders to reduce lines in toll plazas. In 2007, Parsons Brinckerhoff, a transportation consulting firm, was hired to manage the program. It is now managed by URS Corporation.

Real-time RideMatching

Since its establishment, RideShare Delaware has provided a forum to match people with the same commuting pattern to form a car pool. Since March 2011, RideShare Delaware has offered an interactive travel tracking database to identify potential carpool partners. His website pairs carpool partners, logs, and recording trips back and forth, and provides transit information.

The RideMatching system provides emissions tracking software to calculate and report carbon dioxide emissions as well as mileage, fuel and cost reductions for carpoolers, transit riders, vanpoolers, cyclists, and people who are running for work. This information shows to commuters how their clean travel reduces their travel costs to the office, and also measures how they have a positive impact on air quality in the region by sharing travel.

In April 2009, registration of RideShare Delaware reached 15,000 commuters.

Program Guaranteed Home Rise

All commuters are registered in the Delaware RideShare database (regardless of whether they are transiting, carpool, vanpool, walking or bike) eligible for a Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program. If an emergency arises on the day when the commuter shares a trip to the workplace that prevents the commuter from going home normally, RideShare Delaware will replace the commuter for the required taxi service or rental car. This free benefit is limited to five usages per calendar year per registered user.

School class

The School Pool program is a free voluntary program that helps parents identify other parents who want to share the task of delivering their children to and from school. It caters to individuals who travel to the Delaware schools, even if the user lives in Pennsylvania, Maryland, or New Jersey.

Vanpool Help

Delaware RideShare facilitates vanpool Commuting. Vanpools caters to preformed groups of 7 to 15 passengers. Delaware RideShare identifies potential vanpool participants who share commuting patterns. If they form a vanpool, vanpool charges will be determined by the number of passengers in the van, the mileage and the total cost of the gas. The commuters who use vanpool can benefit from the transit benefits the company offers. Offered as an employer subsidy, option or combinational pre-tax, employees are entitled to up to $ 230 per month on the cost of riding a train, bus or vanpool if offered by their employer. As a result of the Base Realignment and Closing Commission process, approximately 8,000 new employees are being transferred to the Aberdeen Proving Ground, and Delaware RideShare helps employees move to or stay in Delaware by building a round trip to Aberdeen.

Delaware RideShare encourages State of Delaware employees to participate in the Fleet Link State Vanpool program. State employees using vanpool are eligible for emergency return trips only through the State Vanpool program. Each group of four or more Delaware employees can start vanpool by renting a state-owned van with a fixed monthly fee that includes gas, tolls, and periodic maintenance.

Commuter bike

Delaware RideShare promotes commuter bikes by producing bike travel route map. DART First State also offers bike racks on the front of many buses for commuters who do not want to ride along the way. In addition, bike commuters are also eligible for the GRH program.
