The long combination vehicle is a combination of several trailers on a tractor truck compared to a standard 5-axle axle trailer trailer with one trailer. The combination of LCV is:
- Double turnpike - two trailers 40 feet or more in length up to 53 footers
- Rocky Mountain double - one 40a, ft or more footage and another 28-foot (pup) short trailer
- Triple trailer - three 28.5Ã, ft pups
- B-Train - 33 max max twin trailer that shares the tridem wheel mounted between the front and back trailers.
- STAA doubles pups - two 28.5 foot trailers
LCVs are useful because they usually carry extra goods in terms of square and cubic capacity and heavy capacity; because the axle is spreading heavily in the longer area. They are also more efficient based on Ton-mileage.
In the United States some countries allow certain combinations on certain routes. In the western United States LCV is allowed on many Interstate highways. The only LCV allowed nationally is a double STAA.

Future combinations are being researched and considered to be allowed on the National Network. The new standard is scheduled for release in November 2014.

The heavy formula of the federal bridge
- 1 The calculated value reflects the FHWA policy of rounding down when the distance falls exactly between the 6 inch (15 cm) increase.
- 2 The calculated value reflects the FHWA policy of rounding down when the weight drops right between the 500 pounds increase.
- 3 Tandem axle by definition.
- 4 The distance between 8 feet (2.4 m) to 8 feet 11 inches (2.72 m) should not be rounded down.
- 5 __ The maximum legal weight limit is based on the number of axles. This increased shaft length does not increase the maximum weight.
- 6 __ Exceptions to the formula: when four axles under consideration are two tandem axles spaced at least 36 feet (11 m) apart, gross weight of 68,000 pounds (31,000 kg) allowed.
- __ The upper blank area represents an unrealistic configuration.
