2018 Ford F-150 Reviews and Rating | Motor Trend
src: st.motortrend.com

The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks and medium-duty trucks (Classes 2-7) that have been marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1948. While most of the F-series trucks are full-size pickup truck, the F-Series also includes chassis cab trucks and commercial vehicles. Ford F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States since 1986 and the best-selling pickup since 1977. This car is also the best-selling vehicle in Canada. In the 2018 model year, the F-Series earned $ 41.0 billion in annual revenue for Ford, making the F-Series brand more valuable than Coca-Cola and Nike.

In 1999, to bridge the gap between pickup lines and medium-duty trucks, the F-250 and F-350 became Ford Super Duty vehicles; considered to be an extension of the F-Series, Super Duty trucks are built on different chassis with heavier components. In the 2017 model year, the F-Series includes the F-150, Super Duty (F-250 to F-550), and F-650 and F-750 Super Duty medium-duty commercial trucks. The most popular version of the F-Series is the F-150, now in the thirteenth generation.

Through the use of rebadging, Ford has marketed the F-Series through its three Ford divisions in North America. From 1946 to 1968 Mercury sold Mercury M-Series in Canada; during the 2000s, Lincoln sold the Lincoln Blackwood, replaced by Lincoln Mark LT.

First generation (1948-1952)

The first generation F-Series pickup (known as the Ford Bonus-Built) was introduced in 1948 as a replacement for used car pickups introduced in 1942. The F-Series is sold in eight different weight ratings, with pickup, panel truck, cabin- over (COE), conventional truck, and bus school chassis body. Second generation (1953-1956) Second generation (1953-1956)

For the 1953 model, a new version of the F-Series made its debut. Increased dimensions, improved engine, and updated chassis are features of the second generation.

In addition, changes to the F-Series naming scheme will remain in effect today. Half a ton of F-1 to F-100 (partially influenced by the F-100 Super Saber North America); F-2 and F-3 are combined to the F-250 while the F-4 becomes the F-350. The conventional F Series trucks are F-500 to F-900; The COE chassis is a C Series truck.

While the same large body parts of 53-56 F-100 & amp; F250's (hoods, fenders, and all bed components) in 1956 Ford redesigned the cabin, changed the shape of the windshield, doors and door openings, and also offered a "Back Back Window" option behind the panorama. This made the 1956 F series truck the only one-year truck.

Another change in 1956 was made on the F-series truck dashboard, which made it more unique

Third generation (1957-1960)

Introduced in 1957, the third generation F-series is a significant modernization and redesign. The front fenders are integrated into the body, and the new Styleside bed continues the fine line to the rear of the pickup.

F-Series cabin-over has been halted, which has been replaced by the C-Series tilt-cab.

In 1959, Ford began producing four-wheel-drive pickup at home.

Fourth generation (1961-1966)

Ford introduced a dramatic new pickup style in 1961 with the fourth generation F-Series. Longer and lower than its predecessor, these trucks have increased dimensions and new engine and gearbox options. In addition, the 1961-1963 model was built as a unibody design with integrated cabin and bed. It proved unpopular and Ford returned to the traditional cabin/bedded design in 1964.

In 1965, the F-Series was redesigned with a significant mid-cycle. A completely new platform, including the "Twin I-Beam" front suspension, was introduced which will be used until 1996 on the F-150 and up to 2016 on the F-250/350 4x2. In addition, the name Ranger made his first appearance in a Ford pickup; previously a basic model of Edsel, is now used to show high level styling packages for F-Series pickups.

The fifth generation (1967-1972)

Introduced in 1967, the fifth generation F-series pickup was built on the same platform as the fourth generation revolution of 1965. Dimensions and enhanced greenhouse glass, expanded machine options, and trim levels added again become available during the fifth generation production.

The suspension components of all 1969 F-Series models are completely interchangeable.

The fifth generation F-series variant was produced until 1992 in Brazil for the South American market. Sixth Generation (1973-1979) "> Sixth Generation (1973-1979)

The sixth generation F-series was introduced in 1973. The F-series version continues to be built on the fourth generation revision platform of 1965, but with significant modernization and refinement. Front disc brakes, increased cabin dimensions, gas tanks moved outside the cabin and under the bed, significantly improving heating and air conditioning, full double wall construction, increased use of galvanized steel, SuperCab introduced in the sixth generation pickup.

The FE engine series was discontinued in 1976 after nearly 20 years of running, replaced by the more modern 351 series (Modified) and 400 series engines.

In 1975, the F-150 was introduced between F-100 and F-250 to avoid limiting certain emission controls. For 1978, square lamps replaced previous rounded models on higher trim package models, such as the Lariat and Ranger, and in 1979 became standard equipment. Also for 1978, Ford Bronco was redesigned into an F-series pickup variant. 1979 was the last year that a massive 460 block engine was available in half a ton of trucks.

Seventh generation (1980-1986)

The 1980 F-Series was redesigned with a new chassis and a larger body; this is the first ground-up design since 1965. The truck's exterior style was improved to improve aerodynamics and fuel economy. Medium-duty F-Series (F600-F900) is also redesigned; although they share a smaller pickup truck cabin, the biggest version of the F-Series now wears a hat with a separate front wing (like the L-Series). The mid-sized Ford F-Series will carry interior design from 1980 to 1986 to 2000 (although pickups were restored again in 1987 and 1992), with subtle changes such as window panes and electronics.

In a move toward fuel efficiency, Ford dropped the M-Series engines (5.8 Liter 351M and 6.6 Liter 400Ã, Â ° C in V8s) in 1981, replacing them with 4.2 Liter 255 C.I. and 5.8 Liter 351 C.I. The Windsor V8 engine from the Panther platform. 255 V8 is only 5.0L, 302 V8 with a small hole, built specifically for better fuel economy, but dropped for the 1982 model due to lack of power and has limited demand. For 1982 and 1983, 3.8L, 232 C.I. Essex V6 was the base engine but quickly fell for the 1984 model year. In 1983, Ford added Diesel power to the F-Series through a partnership with the International Harvester (later Navistar). The 6.9L, 420 C.I. The V8 IDI produces the same power output as 351 Windsor V8 petrol, with a fuel economy of 4.9L, 300 I6. From this point (1983-present), heavy duty f-series trucks (F-350 and above) are usually equipped with Diesel engines as standard horsepower. 1985 was the first year of electronic fuel injection on the 5.0L V8, all other engines followed in 1988. There was a new "high output" version from the start of the 5.8L Windsor in 1984.

Real changes were made to the F-Series in 1982 when the Ford "Blue Oval" was added to the grill center, as well as the Ranger and Custom trim are no longer available. The Ranger name has been moved to an all-new compact pickup developed as a substitute for the Courier. The new trim levels are basic models with no badges (basically a new Custom), XL, XLS are very rare, and XLT Lariat.

1983 marked the final year of the F-100, making the lightest F-150 pickup available in the market. The F-100 and F-150 are almost identical with the smaller brake exceptions and the 5x4.5 bolt pattern on the F-100 axle, compared with 5x5.5 on the F-150. F-100 on a particular GVWR and/or without brake power using an F-150 axle. Also, the 1980-1983 F-100 was never offered with four wheel drive.

1986 marks the final year that the F-150 is available with a 3-speed manual gearbox that shifts through the 3-o-the-tree steering lever. Incidentally, this is the last second vehicle in the United States that offers this arrangement. 1986 is also the last year of Explorer packages available.

This is a first-generation truck that combines amenities such as power mirrors, power windows, and electric door locks.

The eighth generation (1987-1991)

The 1987 F-Series carries the same body style from the seventh generation, but uses a new round front clip that improves the aerodynamics, as well as the softening of the body lines around the back of the bed and the fender arch around the wheel wells. The interior was also completely redesigned in 1987. Transmissions available on the SuperCab model are four or five speed manuals; regular cabin models are also available with automatic transmissions. Trim Custom makes a comeback for the eighth generation. In 1988, the inline-six 4.9 Liter engine, 5.8 Liter V8, and 7.5 Liter V8 received electronic fuel injection. Navistar International also increased their 6.9 Liter V8 displacement in the same year, resulting in a new 7.3 liter unit. This is also the first year of the five-speed overdrive manual transmission, including the Mazda M5OD on the F-150 and ZF5 heavy duty on the F-250 and F-350. Four-speed manual was dropped as standard equipment after 1987, but was available as a customer-ordered option until 1989. In 1989, the three-speed C6 was automatically replaced as a basic automatic transmission with E4OD, a four-speed automatic overdrive unit electronically controlled, although C6 is still available as an option, mostly in the F-250 and F-350, until 1997. The Heavy Duty Model includes the F-250 and F-350 (along with the F-250 -Super Dutys) which are classified as not only manufactured without beds, but emerged as a tow truck, box truck (mainly U-Haul), pickup trucks, garbage trucks and other models. Although the F-250, F-250 HD (heavy duty), and the F-350 were built as Chasis cabin models from 1987 to 1997, the owners were able to transform the model into a pickup truck. But General Pacheco, Argentina and Bernardo do Campo, Brazil's assemblies are the only places the F-250, F-250 HD, and F-350 are built and sold as pickup truck models. Despite being produced only in General Pacheco, Argentina and SÃÆ' â € <â €

The ninth generation (1992-1997)

For the 1992 model year, the body-shell of the F-Series 1980 was given another major improvement. To further improve its aerodynamics, the front bodywork is given a slightly lower hoodline, rounding the front fenders and grille; In addition, the changes are in line with the F-Series with the newly introduced Explorer design and the redesigned E-Series and Ranger. Along with the exterior updates, the interior received a complete redesign.

Inactive since 1987, FlareSide bed returns as an option for 1992. To increase its appeal for younger buyers, the bed's bodywork is redesigned, borrowed the side of the F-350 dual-rear rear-wheel drive bed (fitted to the narrow F- more narrow) Single wheel chassis 150). To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Ford's first production truck (Ford Model TT 1917), Ford offers the 75th anniversary package of the 1992 F-series, consisting of a stripe package, an argent-colored step bumper, 75 special logo. In 1993, 240Ã, hp SVT Lightning was introduced as a specially tuned performance truck; more than 11,000 were built from 1993 to 1995.

In shift trim, XLT Lariat is dropped and combined with XLT; XL took over for Custom trim after 1993 (marking the last use of Custom's nameplate by Ford). In 1995, Eddie Bauer's trim came back.

In 1995, the midsize F-Series F-Series (F-600 to F-800 and all Ford B-Series) were given their first update since 1980. All versions (except heavy service) received a redesign of the hood that enlarged the grid- grid and move the turn signal indicator to the outside of the headlights.

During the second half of 1997, the F-250 HD (heavy duty) was in the same series as the F-350. Body style remained the same until the end of 1997. The only changes to the F-250 HD and F-350 are that they no longer have the classic style of tailgates, with stainless steel lids on those reading FORD. In contrast, the tailgate has the F-250 Heavy Duty / F-350 plate labeled on the left side, while the blue Ford oval is labeled on the right side (similar style as 1997 Ford F-150 around this same time). The F-250 HD also has some minor changes in trim locations, and options available. The 1997 F-250 HD with Diesel 7.3 Powerstroke is also the rarest and most desirable of the ninth generation Ford.

After the introduction of the 10th generation F-150, the F-250 and F-350 continued to be produced into the 1998 model, becoming part of the Ford F-Series Super Duty line when they were replaced in 1999.

Tenth Generation (1997-2003)

For 1997, Ford Motor Company made major changes to the F-Series truck family because the F-Series pickup channel is basically divided into two. During the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, pickup truck buyers increasingly purchased vehicles for personal use over work use. To further increase its market share, Ford is trying to develop vehicles for both types of buyers. In its final decision, the company decided to make the F-150 a contemporary vehicle for personal use, while the F-250 and F-350 will be designed more conservatively for work-based customers.

Introduced in early 1996 as a 1997 model, the F-150 is a completely new vehicle compared to its predecessor. Similar to the original Ford Taurus in 1986, 1997 the F-150 was developed with a very slim body. Dispensing with the traditional Twin I-Beam for a fully independent front suspension, the new chassis only shares transmission with the previous generation. In a big change, the long-running 4.9L inline-6 is being replaced by a V6 engine as standard. 4.6L Modular V8 that is distributed with Panther cars is optional (with 5.4L version added in mid 1997); Originally developed for use in the F-Series, Modular/Triton V8 is the first overhead-cam engine ever fitted to a full-size pickup truck.

To improve rear seat access for the SuperCab model, a hinged (side-by-side) rear door is added to all versions. After its popularity, SuperCab gained the fourth door for 1999. In 2001, the F-150 became the first pickup truck in its size segment to be available with four full-size doors. Sharing the standard SuperCab bed length, the F-150 SuperCrew is produced with a slightly shorter bed.

During the second half of 1997 models, Ford introduced a heavier GVWR version (8800 GVW), under the name F-250. It is distinguished by a seven lug nuts wheel. At the same time, the F-250 HD (heavy duty) is in the same series as the F-350 (same body style as 1992 to 1997, still built in South America alone). After the introduction of the Super Task for 1999, it quietly fell.

In 1999, SVT Lightning made a return, with the output expanded to 360 â € <â €

In 1998, the F-250 and F-350 pickups were introduced as the Ford F-Series Super Duty model 1999. While remaining part of the F-Series, Super Duty trucks use different platform architectures, powertrain and design language, mainly because it is intended for heavy work use. Designed in a joint venture with Navistar International, the F-650/F-750 Super Duty was introduced in 2000.

The eleventh generation (2004-2008)

For the 2004 model year, the F-150 was redesigned on an all-new platform. Externally, the eleventh generation model is different from its predecessor, with a sharper style; a major change was the adoption of the trampled drivers' windows of Super Duty trucks. Regardless of the cabin type, all F-150s are given four doors, with a rear door in the regular cabin that provides access to the storage behind the seat. Ford also introduced the Triton engine in the F-150 variant. As sales declined, the Flareside bed was dropped; this marks the first time in 56 years of production F-Series Flareside beds are not available.

From 2005 to 2008, Lincoln-Mercury dealers sold this F-150 version as Lincoln Mark LT, replacing Blackwood.

At the end of 2007 for the 2008 model year, the Super Duty trucks were all upgraded platforms. While using the same bed and cabin as before, it is distinguished from its predecessor with its all-new interior and a much larger grille and headlight. Previously only available as a chassis-cab model, the F-450 is now available as a direct pickup from Ford.

From 2004 to 2006 offer different bed styles as well.

Second Generation (2009-2014)

The twelfth generation F-150 was introduced for the 2009 model as an update of Ford's full-size truck platform. Similar to its predecessors, these trucks are distinguished by the Super Tasks' main grille and headlights; the standard cabin model again has two doors instead of four. The FlareSide bed continues until 2010, down along with the manual gearbox; outside Mexico, Lincoln Mark LT was replaced by the F-150 Platinum. New models for 2010 include SVT Raptor, a special off-road pickup.

As part of the main focus on fuel economy, the entire range of engines for the F-150 is updated for the 2011 model year. Along with two new V8 engines, the F-150 acquired a new base 3.7 Liter V6 engine, and a 3.5-turbocharged V6 strong, dubbed EcoBoost by Ford. Automatic transmission is the only option. Other modifications include the addition of Nexteer Automotive Electric Power Steering (EPS) systems in most models.

A recent study conducted by iSeeCars.com and published on the Ford Motor Company's Ford F-250 Super Duty listed website as the longest vehicle and Expedition, Explorer and F-150 in 20 of the longest vehicles.

Thirteenth generation (2015-present)

Ford F-Series thirteenth generation introduced for the 2015 model year. Most previewed by Ford Atlas concept vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show 2013, the new design marks some major changes to the F-Series design. For the sake of fuel economy, Ford designers reduced the F-150's curb weight by nearly 750 pounds, without physically altering the exterior footprint. To allow for such massive weight reduction, virtually every body panel is replaced from steel to aluminum (with the exception of firewalls); the frame itself remains high-strength steel. To prove the durability of the aluminum-intensive design, during the development of the thirteenth generation F-Series, Ford incorporated a disguised prototype into the 1000 Steel endurance race (where the vehicle was completed). The F-150 2015 is the first pickup truck with an adaptive cruise control, which uses a radar sensor on the front of the vehicle to maintain the following set distance between and vehicle in front of it, reducing speed if needed.

The 3.7L V6 was dropped, replaced by a 3.5L V6 as a standard engine, with 2.7L EcoBoost V6 added alongside the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. While the 6.2L V8 is withdrawn, the 5.0L V8 continues as an option, with a 6-speed automatic transmission as a single transmission.

For the 2018 model year, the Ford F-150 has a mid-cycle redesign. Following the introduction of the 2017 Super Duty line model, the F-Series (F-150 to F-550 and Ford Raptor) were produced again by public taxi (for the first time since 1999). For 2018, the F-150 shifted from the long-term 3-bar design used on Ford trucks to the "center bar" design that debuted on the 2017 Super Duty model line. Powertrain has some revisions, because the 3.5L V6 is replaced by a 3.3L V6 which is mated to a 6-speed transmission. EcoBoost V6 engine and 5.0L V8 engine equipped with 10-speed automatic capability (from Raptor) and stop-start (previously only from EcoBoost 2.7L). In 2018, the PowerStroke diesel engine was paired to the F-150 for the first time, when Ford introduced the 250L 3.00 twin-turbocharged VX 2506 (from the "Lion" lineup owned by PSA Peugot Citroën and Jaguar Land Rover).

Custom models

Throughout its production, Ford F-Series variants have been produced to attract buyers. While this variant mainly consists of trim packages, the other is a high-performance version while other variants are designed in various ways to improve functionality. Unibody F-Series (1961-1963)

For 1961 being part of the 1963 model year, the Ford F-Series was offered with a third body configuration, integrating a Styleside bed with cabin. With the installation of a welded pickup bed directly into the cabin before both assemblies are fitted to the frame, the design simplifies the assembly and paint process (a configuration similar to that of Ford Ranchero). After poor market acceptance, the design of the unibody picnic bed was withdrawn during the 1963 model.

Special (1961-1979)

From 1961 to 1979, Ford offered several customized option packages for the F-Series, which are typically designed for owners with specific uses for their vehicles. For 1961, the Camper Special option package was introduced; designed for owners of camping truck slides, option packages featuring pre-wired for camping, heavy duty transmission and engine cooling, and larger alternators. For 1968, Ford introduced the Special Contractor and Special Agriculture and Farms , featuring heavier toolboxes and job suspensions. The Explorer Special was introduced as a variant at a lower price than the Ranger trim.

In 1980, the Special option package was withdrawn as part of the F-Series redesign, while some features continued as stand-alone options; Explorer continues as a variant of the Ranger trim through the 1986 model. F-150 Nite (1991-1992)

Sold from 1991 to 1992 on the Ford F-150 XLT Lariat, the Nite special edition is a monochromatic option package, featuring black paint and trim with multicolor accents. For 1991, it was exclusive for regular F-150 cabs; for 1992, it was available on all F-150 bodystyles and was introduced to Ford Bronco.

The Nite edition is available with two wheel drive or four wheel drive with 5.0L or 5.8L V8; it also includes a sports suspension and wheels on a white tire letter 235/75R15.

Eddie Bauer (1994-1996)

For 1994, Ford introduced the Eddie Bauer trim level for the F-150. In a similar fashion with the same trim package in Aerostar, Bronco, and Explorer/Bronco II, it consists of outdoor themed interior trim with two-tone exterior paint.

SVT Lightning (1993-1995; 1999-2004)

Introduced as a model in 1993, the Ford SVT Lightning is a high-performance version of the F-150 produced by the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT). Designated as a competitor for the Chevrolet 454SS, SVT Lightning is derived from the F-150; to improve its handling, extensive modifications are made to the suspension and front and rear frames. Powered by a 5.8L V8 hp version, Lightning uses a heavy 4-speed automatic transmission from the F-350 (usually paired with 7.5L V8 or 7.3L V8 diesel). While slower in acceleration than the Syclone GMC, Lightning retains almost all the towing and landing capacity of the standard Ford F-150. Produced from 1993 to 1995, the first generation SVT Lightning was withdrawn because Ford prepared the Ford F-150 1997 for sale.

After three years of absence, Ford released the second generation of SVT Lightning for the 1999 model. In line with its 1993-1995 predecessor, the second-generation Lightning is based on the F-150 with a number of suspension modifications; in design changes, all samples are produced with FlareSide beds. In place of model-specific engines, the second generation is powered by a supercharged 5.4L V8 version of the F-150, generating 360 hp (increased to 380 hp in 2001). As before, engines with higher output were paired with heavy duty transmissions from the F-350 pickup.

To redesign the Ford F-150 2005, SVT Lightning was not included, leaving 2004 as the last year for the model line. While from a completely different design focus from SVT Lightning, SVT/Ford Raptor is a generation of high-performance Ford F-Series pickup trucks.

From 2000 to 2011, the Harley-Davidson Edition is the preferred package available on the F-150. Especially the appearance package featuring monochromatic black trim, from 2002 to 2003, this edition includes a slightly removed version of the supercharged 5.4L V8 engine from SVT Lightning. In 2003, the 100th Anniversary Edition was produced for the F-150 SuperCrew truck. For 2004, the Harley-Davidson option package became available for the Super-F-250/F-350 truck. After 2008, the option package adopts many options displayed from the Platinum trim level, featuring seats from materials provided for Harley-Davidson biker jackets.

For 2012, the Harley-Davidson Edition is replaced by the Limited trim rate, maintaining a monochromatic exterior appearance (shifting past the motor-themed trim). SVT/Raptor Ford 2010-2014; 2017-present)

For 2010, Ford introduced the second high-performance truck, the SVT Raptor. In contrast to the enhanced road performance of SVT Lightning, Raptor SVT focuses on off-road use, in line with the Baja 1000 racing truck. While road-legal vehicles, many of the Raptor's design modifications are made to improve its off-road capabilities, with vehicles which features an exclusive-model suspension with springs and long journey surprises. The Raptor only shares its cabin with a standard F-150; to accommodate larger tires, the Raptor comes with a wider front fender, hood, and pickup bed. Originally produced as a SuperCab, Raptor SuperCrew was introduced late 2010 model. For the first time in Ford vehicles in North America since 1983, the word "Ford" is spelled on the SVT Raptor grille in lieu of the Blue Oval Ford badge.

For 2010, Raptor SVT is supported by 310 hp 5.4L V8; 6.11 hp 6.2L V8 (from F-150 Platinum and Super Duty trucks) becomes optional, replacing 5.4L V8 for 2011. A six-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission paired with both engines.

After a two-year hiatus, the second-generation Ford Raptor (SVT prefix removed) was introduced for the 2017 model year. Coming from the thirteenth generation F-Series, the Ford Raptor shifted to the aluminum body. Once again manufactured as a high-performance off-road vehicle, the Raptor is produced in SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations, with a special long-vehicle suspension for vehicles. As a design theme, the second-generation Raptor did not carry the Ford Blue Oval grille badge, but instead spelled "Ford" above the grille.

To improve fuel economy and reduce weight, the 6.2L V8 is being replaced by a 4L 4L VL twin-turbo charged, coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission. F-150_Platinum_ (2009-present) "> F-150 Platinum (2009-present)

Introduced for 2009, Platinum is a luxury Ford F-150 trim. Effectively replacing Lincoln Mark LT in the United States and Canada (although production continues until 2014 in Mexico), Platinum adopts many of Mark's luxurious features and content with a quieter exterior styling (Platinum comes with an eggcrate grille similar to Ford Expedition's early models).

In 2013, Ford began using Platinum trim levels for Super Duty trucks, from the F-250 to the F-450 pickup truck.

F-150 Tremor (2014)

For the 2014 model year, Ford introduced the Tremor F-150 model. Tremor was released as a high performance sports truck for street truck enthusiasts. The regular cab tremor is based on the FX Appearance Style style with 3.5 Liter EcoBoost engine and a rear axle of 4.10. The interior uses a console-mounted shifter, custom bucket seats and a mid-flow flow console not found in other F-150s. Tremors are available in 4x2 and 4x4. Both options have an electronic rear locking differential and a dedicated suspension. There are 2,230 Tremors built.

Variant

Medium task truck

For most of its production, the F-Series is sold in a conventional medium-duty truck configuration in addition to traditional pickup trucks. Beginning in 1948 with the F-5 1 ½ tons (then F-500), medium-duty trucks range up to F-8 (F-800). Prior to the introduction of the T-Series cabin of Ford C in 1957, the range of intermediate tasks was offered as a conventional configuration and in a COE (cabover) configuration.

After the introduction of the fifth-generation F-Series in 1967, medium duty trucks were designed separately from the ranks of pickup trucks. While remaining part of the F-Series range, medium duty trucks only share cabins and interiors with F-Series pickup trucks. Since 1967, cabin designs only changed in 1980 and in 2000. Redesigned on an entirely new chassis, the F-Series 2017 medium-sized truck retains the latest version from 2000-2016 F-650/F750.

The mid-duty F-Series serves as the donor platform for the B-Series crackle bus chassis manufactured from 1948 to 1998. Produced mainly for school buses, the B-Series was discontinued as part of Ford's heavy-duty truck sales. line to Freightliner in 1996.

Heavy duty truck

Above the middle duty truck range, the Ford F-Series was used as a heavy truck chassis during initial production. In 1951, Ford made its debut with the line "Big Works", which showed the conventional F-8. In 1958, "Super Duty" and "Extra Heavy Duty" replaced the Big Job truck, marking the debut of the Super Duty V8 engine line. In 1963, the N-Series became the first short car built by Ford, replacing the F-900 Super Duty/Extra Heavy Duty. Although based on a new chassis and a separate bodywork, the cabin is sourced from the F-Series.

In 1970, Ford introduced the conventional L-Series "Louisville" truck lanes, removing all the development of heavy trucks from the F-Series. L-Series/Aeromax will remain in production until 1998, when Ford exits the heavy truck segment.

Vans

From 1948 to 1960, Ford produced the F-Series in a van panel configuration, mostly replacing it with Econoline in 1961. Unlike General Motors, the van panel was never produced in passenger carryall variants, such as the Chevrolet/Suburban GMC.

For most of its production life, the Ford E-Series van has a high mechanical similarity to the F-Series; in the late 1970s, some body components were distributed. Since the 1990s, this has changed somewhat, as Ford updated the F-Series several times since 1992 while the E-Series went on with little change; no powertrains are shared in 2016.

Export

In 2018, outside of the United States, Canada and Mexico, the Ford F-150 is officially sold in most Caribbean countries (except Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Cuba), Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Middle East including Afghanistan), Iceland, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Madagascar, Dutch territory in Aruba, CuraÃÆ'§ao, Saint Maarten and the British overseas territory of the Cayman Islands. Raptor SVT is sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Middle East (including Afghanistan), China, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru. Both are available in LHD only.

In Mexico, the F-150 (XLT and higher trim levels) are called "Ford Lobo" while the F-150 SVT Raptor is called "Ford Lobo Raptor". F-150 XL is called F-150 XL.

There are Ford F-Series trucks all over the world, especially in Europe, China and Australia, and are usually driven by rich car enthusiasts, as the higher trim models are the most searched versions.

In Bolivia, Ford F-series trucks are imported from the United States. F-150 single, super cab and crew cabs are available with short and long beds. F-series Heavy Duty like the F-250, F-350 is available in Cabin Super Cab and Crew with long beds, but the F-450 is only available in chassis version. Raptor F-150 is also available.

In Australia, Ford F-series trucks are imported and converted to right-hand drive by some Australian importers, mostly by Harrison Motoring Group, which is the largest importer of F-Series vehicles in the southern hemisphere. Harrison F-Trucks has become Australia's number one converter and well-known supplier of the Ford F-Series badge.

In the United Kingdom, most of the imported Ford F-Series trucks are F-150 models, and usually the higher four-door version.

The right-hand drive version of the F-Series for England and Australia is produced in Brazil.

In Argentina and Brazil, gasoline engines are often converted to also run with alternative fuels, E-96h (Brazil-spec ethanol) and compressed natural gas (CNG). Biodiesel is also used in Diesel engine.

The addition of a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel engine could potentially make the Ford F-150 global and both LHD and RHD from the factory.
