Histori
Kenworth was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1912 by the brothers George T. and Louis Gerlinger, Jr. as a car and truck dealer known as Gerlinger Motor Car Works. In 1914, they decided to build their own truck with a stronger inline six-cylinder engine, which was first incorporated into a commercial truck. Gersix, as it was known when it was introduced in 1915, is framed in structural steel, which, along with its power, makes the ideal truck for logging in rugged Northwest. In 1916 the company moved to Tacoma, Washington, where Seattle businessman Edgar K. Worthington manages his mother's commercial building. He became interested by the Gerlinger company, which was quite good, or so it seems, because Gersix became a popular fixture in the Northwest. In 1917, Worthington and his business partner, Captain Frederick Kent bought the business, changing its name to Gersix Motor Co.
In 1919 Kent retired from business, and his son Harry Kent became Worthington's new partner. In 1922, Gersix made 53 trucks at his factory at Fairview Avenue on Valley Street. Under the new name, the company moved to 506 Mercer Street and then to 1263 Mercer Street. Trucks and motor coaches are assembled in individual bays rather than on conventional assembly lines. In 1923, Kent and Worthington connected the business as Kenworth Motor Truck Company, a combination of the names "Ken" and "Worth". In 1926 they began to make buses, and in 1933 Kenworth was the first American company to offer diesel engines as standard in their trucks. In 1945 Kenworth was purchased by The Pacific Car and Foundry Company.
The 1970s television series "Movin On" features the Kenworth tractor. In James Bond's 1989 Kill License, James Bond drove the Kenworth W900B semi-loose truck while he was a duet with drug dealer Franz Sanchez.

Kenworth's role in the transit bus and school industry has largely been forgotten. This may be due to a number of factors including Kenworth's current status as a leading manufacturer of Class 8 heavyweight trucks, and the fact that almost no examples of the buses built by Kenworth exist today (with the exception of several surviving CT models 73 buses "School Trainer Pacific "and one remaining" Bruck ").
Given that fact, and has been a major builder of transit buses and schools, interest in the history and preservation of Pacific School Trainers (as well as Kenworth's involvement in the bus and bus industry as a whole) has increased in recent years. especially in the Pacific Northwest where Kenworth buses are most commonly found. Trainer Gillig Transit/Pacific SchoolCoach Online Museum, a website focused on preserving the Gillig bus line at a previously built school, was expanded shortly after the 2001 launch to include Kenworth-Pacific SchoolCoach history. Since then, the expansion has expanded to include the entire history of Kenworth's involvement in the public transportation industry, as well as their local dominance in the school bus industry throughout the 1950s.
In 2006, at the 11th Annual Truck Exposition of the American Truck History Society at the Mason County Fairgrounds in Shelton, WA, a historical community dedicated to preserving Coach Gillig Transit and Kenworth-Pacific School Trainers is officially dedicated.
