New 2019 Ford Ranger Midsize Pickup Truck | Back in the USA - Fall ...
src: www.ford.com

The Ford Ranger is a nameplate that has been used on three different vehicle model lines sold by Ford. Originally used from 1958 to 1960 by the short-lived Edsel division on the Edsel Ranger model line, this name was adopted between 1965 and 1981 on various versions of the Ford F-Series as a cut and package option. For the 1983 model, the Ranger name was modeled on its own, being a compact pickup truck sold in North America and then, part of South America.

Since 1998, Ford has begun to use the Ranger nameplate globally. Ranger discontinued in the United States and Canada for the 2011 model year, while sales of updated versions continue in the international market throughout 2012 until 2018 model year. In model year 2019, Ford will continue sales of Ford Ranger in the United States and Canada.

America (1983-Now)

For the 1983 model year, Ford introduced the Ford Ranger to the United States and Canada. Replacing the 1971-1982 Ford Courier (rejuvenated Mazda B-Series), the Ranger is the first compact pickup truck designed by Ford Motor Company. In 1995, Ford Ranger exports started in Latin and Latin American countries elected. To accommodate vehicle demand, in 1998, Ford Argentina started local production of Ranger, introducing a four-door cab that is not sold in North America.

During its 29 years of production, the Ford Ranger was produced through the same chassis architecture for three generations. Along with major redesigns in 1993 and smaller in 1998, this model saw mid-cycle updates for 1989, with smaller updates in 2001, 2004, and 2006. For 2010, the South American version of the Ranger saw the exterior new sheetmetal not given to North American partners.

The Ford Ranger serves as the basis for several models, including the Ford Bronco II compact SUV, the first two generations of the mid-size Ford Explorer SUV (alongside Mazda Navajo and Mercury Mountaineer), and the first-generation Ford Explorer Sport Trac medium pickup truck. From 1994 to 2009, Mazda sold rebadged Ranger versions in the United States and Canada as the Mazda B-Series (opposite of the rest of the world and opposite of the original Mazda-source Ford Courier).

On December 22, 2011, the Ford Ranger final produced for North America rolled off the assembly line, becoming the last vehicle assembled in the Twin Cities Assembly.

For the 2012 model year, Ford Argentina began assembling the Ford Ranger T6.

United States of America (2019)

For the 2019 model year, Ford started selling the global version of the Ford Ranger, after an eight-year hiatus from the nameplate. The first generation of Ranger sold as a medium-sized pickup truck in the United States and Canada, a new generation featuring reinforced frames and front bumper. Ford will sell SuperCab and SuperCrew (for the first time), while the standard two-door cabin version will not be available.

Because the compact Ranger serves as the basis for several other Ford vehicles during its production, the Ranger 2019 will serve as the basis for mid-size Ford Bronco 2020 SUVs.

For markets outside North America, Ford's badge designed the Japanese-made Mazda B-Series as a Courier starting in 1971, changing its name to Ranger in 1998 (with the exception of Australasia in which the Courier name plates were maintained until 2006; Courier coincidence is also sold in America North before the 1983 model). The second generation Ranger model from 2006 to 2011 was also designed by Mazda, as a rebadition version of the successor of the B-Series, the first generation BT-50.

The third-generation model, as produced since 2011, was designed and engineered by Ford Australia, with this time the Mazda variant being a derivative version of Ford, offered as the second generation BT-50. This third generation is also the basis for the Ford Everest SUV and therefore, Ranger and Everest share a number of features. The third-generation Ford Ranger and especially its most expensive flagship version (Ranger "Wildtrack"), has greatly increased its presence in the European market, making Ranger the best-selling pickup truck in Europe by 2015.

For the 2019 model year, Ranger T6 started sales in North America, with some external and internal changes to adapt to government regulations and market demand.
