Super with v8 Sport , or SS , is a package of signature performance options offered by Chevrolet on a limited number of vehicles. All SS models come with a distinctive "SS" sign on the outside. The SS package was first available for Impala 1961. Some other models that have SS badges include Camaro, Chevelle, El Camino, Impala, Monte Carlo, Nova, and Chevrolet Pickup Truck. The current SS model is produced by GM Performance Division.

In 1961, the SS "kit" (known as the sports package and appearance) was offered on Impala for only $ 53.80. This package includes Super Sport trim for both interior and exterior, chassis reinforcements, springs and strong shocks, electric brakes, spinning wheel covers, and narrow-band whitewall tires. Car dashboard receives Corvette style hand bar and steering column mounted 7000-rpm tachometer. Chevrolet built 491,000 Impalas that year and 453 had the SS package, of which 311 received 348 cid and 142 received 409 cid. Since 1994, SS packages have been used on a variety of GM vehicles, including pickup trucks, four-door sedans, and front axles.
Both historically and today, the Super Sport package typically includes high performance tires, heavy duty suspension, and power upgrades, along with various performance improvements and other appearances.

South African Market
For a short time in the early 1970s, Holden Monaro's "Chevrolet SS" model, similar in design, size and drivetrain to Nova SS, is available in South Africa. Unlike contemporary Nova, it is built as a hardtop, with no pillars or fixed frames that remain around the door glass.

Concept car
In 2003, Chevrolet released a concept car that they named SS. A rear-wheel drive sports car with a small 430-hp modern block V8 engine and a race-adjusted suspension, it's billed as "a modern interpretation of the Chevrolet Super Sport heritage". Although never intended for production, the vehicle was used as an exhibition car and hinted at what lies ahead for Chevrolet sports car design.
Collector market
It is usually easy to distinguish visually the SS from the "plain-Jane" model. However, it is more difficult to distinguish between real SS and "artificial", non-SS vehicles that have been altered to look like SS. Due to the large number of SS clones in the market, potential buyers are encouraged to research and contact their local car club to help ensure that the vehicle is a true SS by running VIN code and casting numbers on the machine (this also includes vehicle wake sheets especially if SS packages are optional factory). Other non-SS vehicles were changed to look like they only used trim panels rather than aftermarket mechanical parts.
