Histori
Ryder was founded in Miami, Florida in 1933 by James Ryder as a concrete carrier with a truck, 1931 Model "A" Ford. Within a few years, the business expanded to rent trucks to other companies. This causes Ryder to change his focus from distribution to lease. In 1939, Ryder's truck fleet increased to 50. Ryder bought the Great South Trucking Company in 1952. In 1955, Ryder System, Inc. formed to incorporate Great Southern and Ryder Truck Rental. Ryder System went public in 1955. In the 1960s and 1970s, Ryder has expanded its distribution and supply network.

In June 1998, Ryder decided to focus on leasing and leasing commercial trucks, and out of the "one-way" business arena; which are sold to Budget Truck Rental. The white Ryder truck seen on the highway is currently available to the general public who wants to move locally (returning the truck to the original shipping location), business, and companies that have contractual agreements with Ryder.
Ryder will launch an electric truck rental in California, Chicago, and Illinois. The trucks will be equipped with a 70kWh battery, which has an estimated range of 100 miles, just below the smallest battery in the Tesla S. model.
Headquarters
Ryder's headquarters is located in an unincorporated area in northwestern Miami-Dade County, Florida, near Miami Dade-County, the border of Broward County.
Previously Ryder has its headquarters in Doral, Florida. In 2002, after taking a year-long study of 22 potential headquarters locations in South Florida, Ryder announced that it would move its headquarters to another location in northwest Miami-Dade County. Travel time of about 200 employees living in Broward County declined. Before the announcement of the last headquarters, Ryder considered several locations in Miramar in Broward County. In 2005, Shoma Development Corp began destroying Ryder's former headquarters in Doral, replacing it with Park Square on Doral's development.
