Mud bogging (also known as mud racing , running mud , drag mud , or coat ) is a popular off-road motorsport form in Canada and the United States where the goal is to drive a vehicle through a mud pit or long track course. The winner is determined by the distance traveled through the pit. However, if multiple vehicles can travel its length, the time it takes to cross the pits will determine the winner. Usually, vehicles competing in the mud are four wheels. Motor sport is overseen by agencies that wear sanctions such as the American Mud Racing Association , and National Mud Racing Organization (NMRO) , who oversees every class, develops and maintains relationships with track owners to provide racer and fan-friendly facilities, make sure the sponsors get good returns, and help organize the sport.

Vehicles

Modern Class V or VI classic mud riders are a dragster-style "rail" design, with supercharged engines and/or nitrous oxide injection. The machine may be in front of or behind the vehicle. Vehicles are required to have four wheel drive, to ensure that the vehicle has the best possible to avoid being trapped. The only difference between Class V and VI is the type of tire. Class V racer has D.O.T. road legal mud tires for traction. Class VI vehicles have tractor tires.

Early mud racers are pickup trucks or modified sport utility vehicles with raised suspensions and larger tires, and classes available for vehicles as they are today. Engine upgrades are also common. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, large tractor tires became popular, and the driving line required to run such tires caused some of the first purpose built sludge engines to be built. In the late 1980s, many regulators began putting vehicles with "modified" rails, and lower, dragster-type, as they became more popular. At the same time, the supercharger was first used extensively, leading to a modern top-level racer.

In the late 70s and 80s of wet mud activities, there was generally a class to run the tired tractor trucks. Trucks like Arizona Outlaw, Goldbricker, Six Pack, Arizona Sidewinder, Instant Motion, Lord Lumpur, Mud Pup, Wild Thing, Nasty Habit, No Name & amp; Untammed, and the legendary Cyclops are often competitors. Some of these trucks will later be modified into Monster Truck.

There are many types of swamp mud, from Bukit and Hole, Flat or Progressive Path, to Opening a Bog. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes from 150 feet (46 m) to over 300 feet (91 m). Hill and Hole just sounds, typically 60 feet (18 m) wide by 200 feet (61 m) in length, a series of hills and holes, and challenging for each truck. All NMRO tracks are Flat or Progressive tracks, more similar to drag strips, or drag sand. Open swamps come from Florida and mostly natural. These tracks have few organizations.

Hill and Hole Classes range from 4 and 6 Cylinder, Street Stock, Hot Street, Renegade, Super Street, Small Tire Modified 36 "and below, Big Tire Modified 37" and large tires, Unlimited, Class X, and More. There are many classes that are normally arranged but the size of the tires, and the engines.

Most Unlimited and X classes are run with what you want in the security rules. These trucks have large engines powered, built only for that class and are not limited to what can be added to the truck. The truck must pass all safety rules and be safe to put in the show and not hurt the crowd.

The National Mud Racing Organization is currently the only major professional championship series left. Their rule book is a common ground for most other mud racing competitions. NMRO was founded by Gary Baker from Dayton, Ohio.

USA Motorsports and USHRA run a professional mud racing series, both referred to as the Indoor Series, for many years until it was removed from events around 1995. They sometimes had swamp mud as part of later events, but not on the same scale as before.

Years later around 2006 a new era of Mud Bogging began to flourish and has evolved into a worldwide internet sensation. In the current Mud Garden 2016 around the eastern part of the United States has an event that draws thousands of people carrying Atvs, UTV, trains, lifting Jeeps, and Mega Trucks to participate in Mud bogging actions. Most Mega Trucks are built with a special chassis, have 5 tons of axle, more than 700 horsepower and have a tractor tire. Some drivers include their Mega Trucks in freestyle, Hill'n Hole, hole bounty, and Tug of War competition and compete with others for cash and or trophy. Some Mega Trucks have a blower motor or an injected Alcohol motor that will carry over 1500 horsepower. To create fair competition the trucks can be divided into different classes such as "Mega Truck Class", "Class 1 Ton" and "Super Truck Class".

Mud Bogging videos can be found all over YouTube. For example, Mud Stamp Films is a Mud bogging channel that provides Mud Bogging and Mega Trucks recordings in different Mud Parks around the Eastern part of the United States.
