lift table is a device that uses a scissor mechanism to raise or lower goods and/or people. Usually the lift table is used to raise large and heavy loads over a relatively small distance. Common applications include palette handling, vehicle loading and work placement. The lift table is the recommended way to help reduce the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders by repositioning the position correctly at the appropriate height for the operator. Lift tables allow them to adapt easily to specific uses. They can work in unfriendly environments, manufactured in stainless steels and have equipment such as conveyors, turntable, barriers, and easy-to-add gates to their deck.

Use
Lift tables can come in a wide array of configurations and can be built to suit a very special industry process. The most common lift table design incorporates hydraulic cylinders and electrically powered pumps to drive the scissor lift mechanism. The lift table can also be driven by a pneumatic source, a trapezoidal threaded drive, a thrust chain or with a hydraulic foot pump when the load is not heavy. The lift table can be installed in the pit for floor level loading, especially useful for manual pump pallet truck access and wheelchair users or disabled persons.
Industries that typically use lift tables include woodworking, manufacturing of upholstered furniture, metalworking, paper, printing and publishing, warehousing and distribution, heavy machinery and transportation.
General use
Common use of lift tables includes
- Car loading and connecting operations
- Access to vehicle disruption (see below)
- Work placement and ergonomic handling
- Positioning of charge (eg when integrated into a conveyor system)
- Positioning in machine feed apps
- Handling palettes and roll
- Furniture upholstery
Access to vehicle interruption
The lift table is widely used as a wheelchair lift and to help raise and lower people with limited mobility. In this case special attention should be given to additional features and precautions to be taken to assist people who are visually limited or mobility.

Standard
In Europe there is a published standard BS EN 1570: 1998 A2: 2009 Safety requirements to lift the table. Standard EN 1570-1 is now EN 15701-1: 2011 A1: 2014. This is a Type C standard and complies with this standard which permits compliance with Machine Directive 2006/42/EC. Work is underway to revise this standard and possibly divide it into 3 parts. It specifies the criteria for raising and lowering the goods and/or persons associated with the movement of goods carried by the counter. When using an appointment table for use not covered by International/Regional standards, e.g. EN1570 further consideration may be given to the Risks and related dangers.
General accidents
The most common types of accidents involving scissor lift
- Caused by a misapplied engine error, an obstacle
- Misuse of equipment
- Less maintenance
