UD Trucks Corporation UD Torakkusu Kabushikigaisha is a Japanese company whose main business is manufacturing and selling diesel trucks, buses, bus chassis and special purpose vehicles. Its headquarters are located in Ageo, Saitama, Japan. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Volvo Group since 2007. Prior to 2010, the company was known as Nissan Diesel.

The name UD was originally used for Uniflow Diesel Engine company (two-stroke diesel engine), developed in 1955, but is now marketed as the meaning of "Ultimate Dependency".

History

1935-1949

In 1935, , in Kawaguchi, Japan on the outskirts of Tokyo was established. The company started producing 2-step KD-series diesel engines. In 1940, the production of truck series TT6 weighing 4.5 tons began. In the development of 9-ton 9000-ton truck, featuring the largest payload capacity in the Japanese market, and the nation's first monocoque-type BR3 series bus with engine mounted on the back. In 1946, the company's name changed to Minsei Industries, Ltd. In 1949 the development of 9.5-ton-ton truck series began.

1950-1959

In 1950 Minsei Diesel Industries, Ltd. was separated from Minsei Industries; and the company is on its way to becoming a comprehensive manufacturer of transportation equipment. In 1955, the name UD was born, when Minsei Diesel Industries introduced an unattractive 2-round diesel engine. Of course, UD stands for "Uniflow Diesel", named after the machine they found to be used in their truck. Production of trucks and buses with UD6 81,000 kW (110 PS) UD3, 110Ã, kW (150 PS) UD4 and 169Ã, kW (230 PS) UD6 engines started. In 1957, the development of Japan's first series air-freight RFA bus and 10TW10 series truck weighing 10 tons called "Jumbo" in overseas markets began.

1960-1969

In 1960 the company name was changed again, this time being Nissan Diesel Motor Co., Ltd . Advanced control trucks and tractor tractors are also introduced. In 1963, there was an initial production of a 4-cycle compact 4-cycle 40-kW (55PS) SD20 and 44 kW (60PS) SD22 diesel engines. 70 to 80-ton crane-winches cranes were also introduced to the line-up. 1969 saw the introduction of the 4-cycle 136-kW (185PS) PD6 and 99-kW (135 PS) ND6 diesel engines for heavy duty vehicles. Diesel products are sold in Japan on separate dealer sales channels called Nissan Diesel. In 1969, the 780 series replaced the 680 series glow truck.

1970-1979

1972 saw the marketing of diesel engines RD10 type V-type 206-kW (280 PS) RD8 and 257 kW (350 PS). In 1973, light trucks were produced for Nissan Motor Company.

1980-1989

In 1982 there was the introduction of new forward-control cabs for CWA52/45 series trucks, CKA-T series truck trucks and U (21) ultra-modern U (21) series buses, U (A) 31, RA51. In 1985 the company has a wide range of light, medium and heavy trucks, as well as buses and special purpose vehicles such as crane carriers. In 1989 there was an agreement with IVECO Italia to jointly develop a low-pollution diesel engine.

1990-1999

In 1992 Nissan Diesel Philippines Corp. began producing luxury coaches in collaboration with Jonckheere Bus & amp; Belgian NV/SA coach. In 1995 Nissan Diesel produced two million vehicles since it started production in May 1950. 1996 brought the formation of P.T. Astra Nissan Diesel Indonesia, a joint venture with Marubeni Corporation and P.T. Astra International, and Dongfeng Nissan Diesel Motor Co., Ltd., a joint venture with Sumitomo Corporation and Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

2000-2009

In 2000 Nissan Diesel introduced new heavy duty trucks in Japan and Asian countries. It also obtained sales operations from Nissan Diesel Sales Co., Ltd. In 2003, Nissan Motor and Nissan Diesel reached a basic agreement on a light truck joint venture. There is also the signing of a development assistance contract for air bus suspension with China Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

Nissan Diesel was purchased by Volvo Group in 2007, becoming a subsidiary. After the transaction between Nissan Motor and Volvo, Nissan Diesel's business relationship with Nissan Motors continues as usual and Nissan Diesel and UD brand names remain unchanged. Volvo also acquired the Renault truck division in 2001.

Beginning in 2007, the OEM supply agreement between Nissan Diesel and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation became effective, with both companies supplying engines to each other for use on new buses, and supplying multiple buses to each other with partner badges.

2010-present

On February 1, 2010, Nissan Diesel changed its name to UD Trucks. At the same time Nissan Diesel Trucks Japan, a 100% UD Trucks sales company in Japan, changed its name to UD Japanese Truck .

On September 12, 2012, UD Trucks of North America announced that they will no longer be part of the North American truck market. The reasons given for this decision are a combination of factors, including continued depreciation of the cabin-over-engine market segment and accelerated regulatory compliance costs.

In 2013, UD Trucks launches UD Quester in Bangkok, a new heavy duty truck for developing countries.

In 2014, UD Trucks joins UD Trucks Japan. In the same year, Volvo's Volvo Buses began marketing UD buses in India. The first model for the market, UD SLF, was introduced in 2015.

In 2015, UD Trucks updated its headquarters in Ageo.

In 2016, UD Trucks started selling Kazet, a new light duty for the Japanese market supplied by Mitsubishi Fuso. In December of that year, he sold his stake in Dongvo (formerly Dongfeng Nissan Diesel), a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group, which was renamed Dongfeng Nengdi.

In 2017, UD Trucks launched a new version of Quon and Condor trucks. Condor, medium duty truck, supplied by Isuzu as part of OEM agreement, especially for Japanese market. The company also launched the new Croner and Kuzer lightweight, both aimed at developing countries.
