The Texas Triangle is one of eleven megaregions in the United States. This is a much larger urban area on a scale than the metropolitan statistical area (MSA), defined by the US Census Bureau. This area is also known as megapolitan area . The Texas triangle is formed by four major cities, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin, linked by Interstate 45, Interstate 10, and Interstate 35. This area is sometimes also referred to as Texaplex .

Growth
In 2004, the Texas Triangle contains 5 of the 20 largest cities in the US, and is home to over 70% of the population of Texas, with a population of 13.8 million. In the next 40 years, the Texas Triangle population is projected to grow by more than 65%, or an additional ten million people, causing 78% of Texans to live and work within the Texas Triangle. From the perspective of the population, the Triangle gradually became synonymous with Texas.
The Triangle anchored in the metropolitan areas of Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, and San Antonio. Additional MSAs in the region include Austin, Bryan-College Station, Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, and Waco. Twelve areas of micropolitan statistics are located within the Triangle, covering 66 districts. Beaumont, located east of Houston, has been considered part of the Texas Triangle by various studies dating from 2000. Burleson County is central to the Texas Triangle.
The reasonably large metropolitan areas in Texas outside the Triangle are Corpus Christi, El Paso, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, Abilene, San Angelo, Laredo, Amarillo, Tyler, Longview, Wichita Falls and the Rio Grande Valley.

Definitions
Megaregion is defined in the work by "America 2050" and others. Dr. Robert Lang of the Metropolitan Institute in Virginia Tech characterizes Dallas-Fort Worth as one of the earliest recognized megapolitans. Although each city is different, Dallas and Fort Worth are developing close enough to form an urban area that is widely known as "The Metroplex." A conference on the future of the Texas Triangle was held by Houston Tomorrow and America 2050 on 24-25 September 2009 in Houston.
The 60,000-square-mile (160,000 km 2 ) area contains the largest city and metropolitan area in the state, and in 2008 had a total of 17 million people, nearly 75 percent of Texas's total population. This region is comparable to Florida in the population and comparable to the Georgian region. However, the Texas triangle consists of less than a quarter of Texas's total land area.
According to the University of Texas at Austin's Sustainable Development Center, "The Texas Triangle has three sides measuring 271, 198, and 241 miles in distance."
