Stroker Ace is a 1983 action comedy film directed by Hal Needham and starred by Burt Reynolds as the famous Ace Stroker, NASCAR racer. It was filmed in North Carolina and Georgia.
Co-stars are Jim Nabors, Loni Anderson, Ned Beatty, Parker Stevenson, and Bubba Smith, with performances by many NASCAR racers, such as Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Neil Bonnett, Harry Gant, Terry Labonte, Kyle Petty, Benny Parsons, The Richmond Teams, Ricky Rudd, Cale Yarborough, and Ken Squier's broadcaster, David Hobbs, and Chris Economaki. Stroker Ace was filmed on location at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. The theme song is performed by Charlie Daniels.
Burt Reynolds rejected the role of astronaut Garrett Breedlove in the Terms of Endearment to do this movie. The role was given to Jack Nicholson, who later won the Academy Award. Reynolds said he made this decision because "I feel I owe more than I owe it to Jim" but that is a turning point in his career that he never gets. "That's where I lost them," he said of his fans.
The film is adapted from a 1974 novel Stand On It , a fictional driver's autobiography "Stroker Ace." The author of this novel, William Neely and Robert K. Ottum, based the book on real events of the racing world but with their protagonists as subjects.

Plot
Stroker Ace is a popular racing car racer from Waycross, Georgia, and (according to the dialog), three-time champion, at the NASCAR circuit, and the # 7 Ford Thunderbird driver. Man who is all or nothing, he wins if he does not crash. He is arrogant and arrogant, regardless of the business side of his racing team. He also has a competition on the track, a long season with ambitious young driver Aubrey James (Parker Stevenson), who drives # 10 1982 Buick Regal sponsored by Four Star Whiskey.
When he collided with his current sponsor, Jim Catty (Warren Stevens) from Zenon Oil, by throwing a lot of wet concrete at him, he had to find a new one. Clyde Torkel's fried chicken breeder, along with his driver, Arnold (Bubba Smith), and newly appointed marketing and public relations director, Pembrook Feeny (Loni Anderson, invention and protege producer Hugh Wilson), convinced Stroker and his mechanic chief, Lugs Harvey, to sign up with her.
Facing his contract by not reading the specifics, Stroker started a new life as a commercial face for a Chicken Pit fast food restaurant. (The slogan in Stroker's car reads: "The Fastest Chick in the South.") His contract proves to establish that he must perform a personal appearance, which includes dressing up with the included chicken suit.
Realizing that he was locked in a bad deal, Stroker planned a plan with Lugs to get out of it. Torkel goes to Stroker, though, and allows his humor as he sees the drivers as a big ticket to regional fame by promoting the Chicken Pit franchise.
A female gentleman, Stroker tries to seduce the beautiful Pembrook, who is a Sunday School teacher, not drinking, and still a virgin. He rejected all progress until he learned to respect his views. One night, after making him drunk on champagne, he wiped his clothes and had a chance to use them, but decided against it.
Stroker won the race under the sponsorship of Chicken Pit and is on his way to the season-ending championship. At the start of the final race, Torkel offered a deal to sell the franchise for great profit, as part of a complicated scheme that Stroker and his friends have made. The interesting thing is if he won the championship, Stroker had to sell the chicken for the next two years; if he loses him out of the contract.
During the Stroker race it goes against itself. He drops back in the race in an attempt to lose, but his ego will not let him so he quickly starts moving back through the pack. Torkel, aware that Stroker prefers to lose rather than contract, made a public announcement that he immediately released Stroker. He did not realize that Stroker moved up through the field in an attempt to win.
With news that he was free of contract, Stroker won the championship in spectacular fashion by turning his car over the finish line. Torkel later discovers that the lucrative offer for his chicken franchise is fake, cooked by Stroker and his friends.
