Fiat Chrysler to Recall 1.8 Million Ram Trucks Over Rollaways ...
src: s3.amazonaws.com

The Ram pickup is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by FCA US LLC (formerly Chrysler Group LLC) and marketed in 2011 and beyond under the Brand < b> Ram Truck .

Previously, Ram was part of Dodge's line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1932-1954 Dodge Trucks, then returned to Ram and Ram Ram 1981 redesigned, after the retir and rebadging of the Dodge D Series pickup truck and van B-series.

Truck Ram was named Truck of the Year TRIP Motor magazine five times; The second generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third generation Ram Heavy Duty won the award in 2003, fourth generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and fourth generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014. The Ram produced at the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico and Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan, USA.

The fifth generation 2019 Ram 1500 debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

First generation (1981-1993 ; D/W)

The first generation Ram truck and van was introduced in 1981 featuring Ram's hood ornaments first used on Dodge vehicles from 1932 to 1954. Not all first-generation trucks have these ornaments and are most commonly seen on four-wheel-drive models. Dodge stores the designation of the previous generation model: "D" or Ram shows a two wheel drive while "W" or Power Ram shows four wheel drive. Just like Ford, Dodge uses 150 to show half-ton trucks, 250 for trucks three quarters of a ton, and 350 for a ton of trucks. Truck models are offered in standard cabins, extended cabin "Club", and cabin crew configuration. They are also offered along with 6.5 ft (2.0 m) and 8 ft (2.4 m) long beds and "Utiline" and "Sweptline" style boxes along with standard boxes. Externally, the first generation of the Rams is a facelift version of the previous generation Dodge D-Series pickups introduced in 1972. The new model introduces larger tail cover lights, double rectangular headlamps, and empty body lines. The engine options are peeled to 225 Slant-6 and 318 and 360 V8s. The interior is updated and includes new bench seats and a completely new dashboard and instrument cluster with an optional three-pod design - a center speedometer, with two side pods containing the ammeter at the top left, the lower left temperature gauge, the fuel gauge on the top right and lower right oil pressure gauge. Models without a full-size packet only have indicator lights in place of temperature and oil pressure gauges. Among the options offered on the Ram are front bumper guard, rear cabin window, AC, cruise control, steering column, electric door lock and window, AM/FM stereo with cassette player, stylish road wheel, aluminum alloy wheels turbine , special paint and stripe packages, two-tone paints, and a rover package for the four-wheel-drive model (referred to as Sno Commander).

The "Club Cab" was dropped from the lineup after 1982, but Dodge saves the tool and was reintroduced almost a decade later in the 1991 model. The four-door crew cabin and Utiline bed were downgraded after the 1985 model, to make room on the assembly line for the Dodge Dakota 1987 which is to come, and never reintroduced in this generation.

The Basic Ram 100 model was reintroduced for 1984, replacing the previous "Miser" trim levels available in Ram 150. The shift-on-the-fly "Ram-Trac" transfer case was added for Power Rams in 1985, and both Cabin and Utiline crew flared beds were dropped for 1986. In 1988, the Slant-6 engine was replaced with a 3.9 liter petrol-powered V6 engine (240 ° C). The 5.2 L engine (318 cuÃ, in) also received electronic fuel injection in 1988. Due to the new computer controlled fuel injection, ignition and ABS systems, more vehicle information needs to be displayed via warning lights or notifications; so inside the cabin where the small compartment once lies on the dashboard, the new "message center" with four small rectangle light points, contains check engine lights and other stories including one for the parking brake and ABS if the truck is very equipped. The message center then inputs the "Wait to Start" and "Water in Fuel" lights on the diesel model. The diagnostic fault codes are stored in the computer's memory, and driving the three-time contact key will allow the computer to flash the problem code through the check engine light to diagnose some problems. ABS back to standard equipment in 1989.

The designation of the Ram 100 model was dropped and the model was folded back to the 150 range for 1990, due to the introduction and success of the Dodge Dakota pickup sales. In addition, the instrument cluster is slightly revised; the ammeter is replaced by a voltmeter while maintaining the 3-pod arrangement of the speedometer and gauge. Also in 1990, Dodge reintroduced Club Cab, fitted with folding folding chairs for the 1991-1993 model. Entries are made through the passenger or driver door, as there is no back door for this configuration.

These trucks, although popular with the fleet, sold poorly compared to Ford F-Series and General Motors C/K Trucks, with just under 100,000 units sold almost every year of their production. Part of this is because of the taxi and chassis designs that have been manufactured since 1972, there was no strong diesel option until 1989, and there was no large gas block V8 option. In addition, the interior has been given a slight update since 1981.

Machines & amp; transmission

For 1989, 5.9 L V8 received throttle-body fuel injection for a 20 hp (15 kW) gain. In addition, Dodge introduces a new overdrive automatic transmission to reduce fuel consumption. This light-duty transmission designated the A500, and is offered with 3.9 L V6 and 5.2 L V8. The "O/D Off" button switch to lock the excess 4 gear gear has been added to the message center. A727 automatic viewing continues to be used for some 5.2-liter engines, all 5.9-liter engines, and heavy-duty applications.

The grille was redesigned for 1991 but retained large headlights and bar crossings. The engines were substantially upgraded for 1992 (3.9 L and 5.2 L) 1993 and 1994 (5.9 L) with multi-port fuel injection, new manifolds, and high compression cylinder heads for higher output. The newly revised machines are marketed under the name "Magnum". The heavy duty automatic transmission with overdrive called the A518 is offered with 5.1 L and 5.9 L engines. As part of the Chrysler reshuffle of the company's transmission nomenclature, the A500 and A518 were redesigned 42RH and 46RH, respectively, in 1992. "4" beginning indicates a 4-speed transmission, the second digit identifies the relative torque capacity of the transmission, the letter "R" in the third position represents the rear-wheel-drive transmission, and the last letter "H" marks the shift of the hydraulic control. 3-speed automatic remains available; A727 redesigned 36RH, and A904, A998, and A999 into 30RH, 31RH, and 32RH, respectively.

5.9 Cummins

A Cummins B Series engine was also added to the engine lineup in 1989. For the first time, Dodge saw an increase in sales. Cummins is paired with a heavy-duty version of the A727 automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission and is available on 250 and 350 pickup and pickup-based chassis-pickup trucks. The diesel option is different from the optional diesel engine in Ford and GM trucks. Cummins has direct injection, while Ford and GM diesel have indirect injection; this also means that Cummins does not have to rely on glowplugs. Cummins is a straight-six engine, while GM and Ford diesel engines are V8 engines. In addition, Cummins is turbocharged, while 6.2Ã, L GM/DDC and 7.3 IDI Ford/IH are naturally aspirated.

The pre-1994 Dodge Cummins-engined pickup is often called "1 Gen Cummins".

This is not the first engine to appear in a Dodge pickup truck as a diesel option. The 1978 and 1979 D-Series models are available with Mitsubishi naturally-aspirated diesel, but are rarely ordered.

Second generation (1994-2001/2002; BR/BE)

The Ram line was redesigned for the 1994 model. Development in the second generation began in 1986, ending in late 1992. The more conventional design was originally slated for production in 1991; when Bob Lutz showed it to new styling designers, chief designer Phillip E. Payne told him, "It seems like nothing more than a repetition of someone else's truck." Just then, Lutz tells him that he has six months to come up with something better. The truck exterior style that was finally released was the result of a design concept by Payne during 1988-1990. A review by Dodge's pick-up truck studio designers feels that modern pick-ups look "too flat and sedan-like", while the early 50's Studebaker pick-ups and semi-trailer trucks have a "macho" look just right for them. The design features a large front-rig-looking front and a large grille that unlike the Ford or Chevy/GMC pickups currently in the design. The Dodge Ram Pick-up was chosen as the "Truck of the Year" for 1994.

The redesigned 1994 Ram was a sales success, with sales rocketing from 95,542 units in 1993 to 232,092 in 1994, 410,000 in 1995, and 411,000 in 1996. That year, it was prominently featured as a hero vehicle in the movie Tween . Sales of this generation reached more than 400,000 in 1999 before declining against re-designed Ford and GM trucks. In 2001, Ram's sales figures were under Ford and Chevy trucks.

The machine offerings are continued from the first generation of Ram and are 3.9 L V6, 5.2 L V8, 5.9 L V8, and 5.9 L L6 Cummins turbo diesel. Added to the line up is a new 488 cubic inch 8.0L V10 engine designed as an alternative for those who want a superior appeal but do not want diesel. The new V10 and Cummins diesel diesel can only be owned by 2500 and higher design models. The model is now 1500 half a ton, 2500 three quarters of a ton, and 3500 dual-wheel rear one-ton in both 2- and 4-wheel drive. 1500 Rams offers 6.5 and 8 foot boxes (2 and 2.4 m, respectively). 2,500 Rams offers a 6.5-foot (2.0 m) box with clubs or quad cabs.

Dodge offered the 2500 series in two different gross-weight vehicle ratings for the first few years, but this was later canceled. The purpose of the difference between light duty truck and heavy duty 2500 is for heavy duty 2500 to replace single-ton truck wheel that has been stopped. The rear axle for the 2500 light duty truck is semi-floating, while the heavy duty rear axle 2,500 floats full.

On the inside, special attention is paid to the cabin's storage features, with a large glovebox, central armrest storage, and extra storage space behind the seat. Dash and gauge clusters are far from previous Ram models and much more modern as well. The redesign of the dashboard and instrument cluster was introduced in 1998 along with the introduction of a quad taxi, and a rounded black rearview mirror replaced the previous rectangular design.

1998 update

In 1998, Dodge introduced "Quad Cab", which uses a smaller "suicide" door just behind the main door. This is offered as an option on "Club Cab" for this year's model. Other changes for 1998 include a round mirror replacing the classic square, revised interior, double airbag, bell that replaces the bell for seat belts/back door/headlights/and digital odometer. The OBD II system is also standard, with a computer port near the driver's side footwell and a code checking system through a new digital odometer reading.

In late 1998 Dodge introduced a front end revision for the 1999 model Sport model with adjustable bumper, quad-beam luminary headlights, and body color grille. The 6-speed manual transmission was made optional for the diesel variant in late 2000 for the 2001 model year. A small portion of the diesel engines for the 1999 and 2000 year models experienced problems in water jackets and fuel injectors. The most problematic is the "53" engine block that has a defect that will cause a break in the block structure itself. Model 2000 becomes optional with heated leather seats. The braking system is upgraded to a double piston caliper in the front. The Offroad Edition is offered as a 2-inch lift package equipped with a more rigid front springs and rear lift blocks, unique 17x8 wheels, 275/70/17 all terrain tires, 4.10 gears, trussed Dana 44 in front, limited slip differential , and slip plates. The Offroad Edition model can also be distinguished by an additional sticker on the rear door under a 4x4 deck that reads "Offroad."

Although Dodge introduced the new Ram 1500 for 2002, the second generation second-generation Ram was brought in for the 2002 heavy-duty 2002 model and 3500 trucks. The new third-generation Ram will not appear in the 2500/3500 variant until 2002 as the 2003 model year. Part of this delay is because the new 5.7 L Hemi engine is not yet ready for production.

  • A500/42RH-RE drops the light duty task found behind 3.9 L V6
  • A518/46RH-RE for heavier duty applications found behind the 5.2 L and 5.9 L V8 engines.
  • A618/47RH-RE for heavy duty use on the back of the V10 petrol engine and Cummins diesel engine. The 47RH was used in 1994 and 1995 model years, while 47RE was used from 1996 to 2002.

NV3500 is offered in 1500 Rams and 2500 Rams lighter. NV4500 is standard on 2500 and 3500 trucks; NV4500HD for V10 and diesel models ( excepting the unusual, 2500 light duty ). NV5600 was offered in 1999 and 2000 Rams and is the only transmission offered behind High Output diesel in 2001 and 2002.

Transfer cases

There are a total of five transfer cases available for the four-wheel-drive Ram. All part-time and has a low range of 2.72: 1. 1500 featuring NP231 and NP231HD. The NP241 is standard on the V8 2500 Rams. The 2500 and 3500 V10 and diesel featured NP241DLD from 1993 to 1997. In 1997 NP241DHD became an option for 2500 Rams and standard at 3500 Rams from 1998 to 2002.

Axle

The Dodge Ram has a wide range of axles. For a 4x4 Rams front axle, Dana 44 is used on all 1500 Rams and early Rams (light duty) 2500. However, most 2500 and 3500 Rams use the front axle of Fund 60. 1500 Rams and some light duty 2500 Rams using a Chrysler 9.25 axle (Spicer ) on the back. A rear axle Fund 60 is used on heavy duty 2500 V8 Rams. A rear axle Fund 70 is used on 2500 Rams with a combination of V10 or Diesel/Automatic transmission. Rear axle Fund 80 is used on 2500 Rams with manual transmission and combination of V10/diesel engine. Each 3500 Ram is made with Dana 80. The front-wheel drive in Rams is unique in that they do not have a locking hub, but are equipped with a central axis termination. The 2002 2500 and 3500 Rams see the eventual phase out of the center of the shaft sever, supporting the front axle that is permanently locked. Dodge continues to put front axles like this for their 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks until 2013 models.

Machine

A natural gas powered engine debuted for 1995 but was not popular and was only used in fleet vehicles on very limited production. The Cummins B Series engine was switched from a 12-valve to a 24-valve (ISB) version in the mid-year Dodge Rams model of 1998 due to emissions regulations. ISB features new computer-controlled injection pumps, 24-valve head designs, and electric fuel pumps.

Third generation (2002-2008/2009; DR/DH/D1/DC/DM)

In development from 1996 (styling by Cliff Wilkins completed in 1998), the third generation Ram was unveiled on February 7, 2001 at the 2001 Chicago Auto Show, and debuted for the 2002 model models on 1500 and 2003 on 2,500 and 3,500 models. This is a great update including all the new frames, suspensions, powertrains, interiors, and sheet metal. Model crew cabin for this generation is actually a Quad Cab truck that has a conventional rear door. Lightweight four-wheel-drive trucks (1500 series) lose their live axles that support independent front suspension, but the 2500 and 3500 series retain live axles for maximum longevity and durability. This body style attracts many from the previous generation.

The redesigned truck supports sales, with 400,000 sold during 2001-2002 and nearly 450,000 sold during 2002-2003, a new high point for the Ram name. At the same time, Ford and GM trucks increased in sales from the 2001 peak of more than 850,000 to 900,000 range. But with 400,543 Rams sold that year, Ram's sales could not compete with the eleventh-generation F-150 in 2004.

2006 Facelift

Dodge Ram has been updated for the 2006 model year. One notable addition is the "Mega Cab", which features an additional 6.25-foot (2 m) and 22 inch (560 mm) cargo box, allowing seating for six people with backrest, full-screen mapping in the dashboard navigation system becomes an option, and redesigned headlamps for a more modern design.

For 2006, the steering design was converted to one from Dodge Dakota and Dodge Durango. Bluetooth U Connect is now available as an option, and the front facelift is given to all Ram models. SIRIUS Satellite Radio is available, as is the DVD entertainment system behind the seats with wireless headphones. The SRT model, with an 8.3 liter V10 engine from the Dodge Viper SRT/10, was discontinued after the 2006 model.

For 2007, Dodge changed the tail lights.

Chassis Cabin

In 2007, the Chassis 3500 Cab model was introduced with industry standard rear frame width and cable to accommodate outfitters. In addition to 5.7 L (345 cuÃ, in), a 6.7 L Cummins (408 cuÃ, in) diesel rated at 350 hp (260 kW) and 650 lb ft. Ft. (880 N m) is also available. The automatic transmission used is 545RFE with 5.7 L (345 cuÃ, in) AS68RC with 6.7 L (408 cuÃ, in). The G56 transmission is the only manual transmission on offer.

For 2008, Dodge introduced two Chassis Cab models, 4500 and 5500. This is a Class-4 and Class-5 truck with a gross weight of 16,500 pounds (7,500 kg) and 19,500 pounds (8,800 kg), respectively. Both trucks are equipped with the same version of Cummins 6.7Ã, L (408Ã, Â ° cuÃ, in) diesel as a 3500 chassis-cab model. Sterling, who works with Dodge in development, has their own version, called Sterling Bullet with a unique grille. Sterling is a division of Freightliner LLC that, like Dodge, is owned by former DaimlerChrysler. Sterling trucks are licensed to sell Dodge Ram 4500 series trucks as Sterling Bullet. When the Sterling brand was phased out by Chrysler Corporation, the Bullet was stopped.

Machine

The model built after January 1, 2007 offers a new 6.7 L Cummins turbo diesel introduced as an option in the 2500/3500 model instead of 5.9 L. It produces 350 hp (260 kW) and 650 lb ft (881 N? M). Unlike the 5.9 L supported by the 48RE 4-speed Transmission, the 6.7 L is equipped with a new 6-speed 6RR transmission.

2005 is the last year for the first version 5.7 L (345 cuÃ, in) Hemi V8. The 2006 half-ton model offers the Hemi V8 Multi-Displacement engine which is also available in Chrysler and Dodge sedans. This machine features the same performance but has a cylinder-disabled feature enabled under light weight to improve fuel economy with 3 MPG city and 4 MPG hwy. The new Hemi still delivers 345 hp (257 kW) and 375 lb ft (508 N m).

Axle

The truck won the NASCAR Trucks Series Truck Series 2003 and 2004 Tres Series Manufacturer Series It also won San Felipe 250 in 2008 and 2009.

The fourth generation (2009-2018; DS/DJ/D2)

The fourth-generation Dodge Ram was introduced at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This latest generation is sold as the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 starting in fall 2008. The 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 models are then added to the lineup. In 2010, the Ram Trucks brand was separated from Dodge.

Chrysler LLC seeks to keep Ram competitive in the market through developments for the 2009 model year, including new four-door cabin offerings, new suspensions, new hemi engine options, and Rambox, a new storage system that enables safe storage inside the wall of the bed truck. The next model has a Rambox system tied to a remote keyless system

Exclusive class manual transmission

Since 2011, Ram trucks marketed as manual transmission "exclusive class". This is because competitors stop making manual transmissions available in the domestic market. The Chevrolet Silverado truck stopped the manual transmission option after the 2006 model year. Ford Super Duty trucks stopped the manual transmission option after the 2010 model. This applies to Class 2, Class 3, Class 4 and Class 5 trucks. The 2011 and 2012 models produce 350 horsepower and torque 610 lb-ft. Horsepower remains the same for the 2013 model, but the torque is increased to 660 lb-ft of torque. The engine output remains the same for the 2014 model.

Cab Options

Cab Cab option is removed, at least on the 1500 model, replaced by an actual four-door crew cabin. Other taxi options are regular taxis and quad taxis. Large taxi options remain on the 2500/3500 model. Like the previous generation, mega cabs use the same wheelbase and overall length as cabin crew/long bed configurations, but instead of using long beds, the rear cabin is extended. The back room remains unchanged, but the rear seat can be restored.

Handling

A five-spring spring coil suspension replaces the leaves for 1500.

Payload capacity

The towing capacity of the 2009 model was originally rated 9,100 pounds (4,100 kg) for 2WD Ram 1500 with regular cabin, bed length, Hemi engine 5.7 L, 3.92 differential and 17-inch wheels, but the rating increased to 10.450 pounds (4.740 kg) without changing the settings. For the 2010 model, the payload was increased by 50 pounds (1,900 pounds) to 1,900 pounds (860 kg) for 2WD regular cabin models with a 3.7 liter V6 engine.

The carrying capacity for regular taxi Ram 1500 with 3.21 differential is rated at 6,100 lb (2,800 kg) with 17-inch wheels and 5,900 kg (2,700 kg) with 19-inch wheels. Crew Cab and Quad Cab models have a capacity of 5,700 pounds (2,600 kg) and 5,800 pounds (2,600 kg) each.

Gross Combined Weight Ratings is 11,000 pounds (5,000 kg) for all Ram 1500 with 3.21 as; max 15,500 pounds (7,000 kg) for 2WD Ram 1500 with long sleep, hemi engine 5.7 L, and 3.92 differentials.

Heavy Duty Chassis Cab

The Chassis Cab version was made for Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 models. The 3500 Heavy Duty Model was unveiled at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show.

Engine options include 5.7 L Hemi V8 rated at 383 bhp (286 kW) at 5,600 RPM and 542 N m (400 lb) at 4,000 RPM for Ram 3500, 6.7 l Cummins turbo diesel with 350 b bhp (260 kW) at 3,013 RPM and 880Ã, N? M (650Ã, lb? Ft) at 1,500 RPM for Ram 3500 (optional), 4500, 5500. The late-model diesel truck 2011 is rated up to 800Ã, lb? Ft (1.085Ã, N? M) torque.

Transmission options include a standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic Aisin. Both transmissions support the Power Takeoff option.

The 3500 model has a regular cab or crew, one-wheel rear or double rear wheels. Four cabin length shafts (60, 84, 108 and 120Ã, inches) for 4500/5500 or two cabin shaft lengths (60 and 84Ã, inch) for 3500, and three trim levels (ST, SLT and Laramie).

Ram 3500 has three shaft ratios (3.42, 3.73 and 4.10) and 17-inch wheels. Ram 4500/5500 has three shaft ratios (4.10, 4.44 and 4.88) and 19.5-inch wheels. The rear axle 4500/5500 Rams is Dana S 110. The front axle on the 4x4 model is produced by Magna, while the 2-wheel-drive model has only a solid axle and can not be moved.

Draft truck

Ram's concept truck "Long Hauler" is largely based on parts of Ram's existing truck. Powertrain, frame and wheel are components of Chassis Ram 5500 Cab. This is an optional "Mega Cab" on lighter Rams. The GCWR for this truck is 37,500 pounds and the truck's weight is 9,300 pounds.

Security

Ram is equipped with standard four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, side curtain air bags, and electronic stability program or ESP. In the 2009 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) accident test, Ram 2009 received the overall score Good in the frontal collision test, and the Marginal score in the side impact test, as well as the roof strength test.

1 power-to-weight ratio: 2.97
2 power-to-weight ratio: 3.17

It received a 5-star head-impact crash rating from NHTSA, but under the later testing method it received an overall 3-star rating. In a side-mast test it is given a single star rating, due to excessive force to the thoracic region. While the Ram 1500 has a standard side airbag does not include the airbag on the side. The vehicle was redesigned and retested, and received a rating of 5 stars.

2013 changed

1500 gets a small restyling. It features a new front fascia, wheels and interiors, where the name "DODGE" has been removed from the dashboard and replaced with "RAM".

All models offered for 2012 continue to be available for 2013 with the addition of a new trim, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited. (Traders, Express, SLT, Big Horn, Lone Star, Sport, R/T, Laramie, and Laramie Longhorn). The Rambox cargo management system continues to be available in most models for 2013. For 2013, the basic ST model becomes the Tradesman model.

The 2013 model has revised engine and transmission options. Production

Ram 1500, Ram Mega Cab, Ram 2500/3500, DX Chassis Cab (Mexican Market), Ram 4500/5500 assembled at the FCA Saltillo Assembly Plant in Coahuila, Mexico; Ram 1500 (DT) is assembled at Sterling Heights Assembly (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The Ram 1500 (DS) was previously assembled at Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan.

Machine

Plug-in hybrid

The two-mode hybrid version is planned to begin production in 2010, but Chrysler decided to cancel it using a small Rams 140 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) test fleet developed with the support of a $ 48 span from The US Department of Energy funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009. The Chrysler PHEV pick-up project has an estimated total cost of US $ 97.4 million. The 1500 PHEV Pickup RAM was introduced at the Washington Auto Show in January 2011. The vehicle is part of a three-year demonstration program intended for field testing and evaluates battery performance across various drive cycles and ambient temperatures, as well as for evaluating customer acceptance. PHEV demonstrator pickup trucks are assembled at the Warren Truck Assembly factory in Michigan and the plug-in hybrid conversion takes place at Chrysler Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The demonstrators are being allocated for field testing among local and state governments, utility companies, and US Army bases. Chrysler has no plans for the production version.

Demonstration Ram 1500 PHEV has a 345 hp 5.7L Hemi V8 gasoline engine mated to a two-mode hybrid transmission and a lithium-ion battery 12.9 kWh 355V from Electrovaya. This arrangement allows all power ranges over 20 mi (32 km), but as a hybrid plug-in blend, PHEV RAM does not run exclusively all-electric during EV mode. The fully loaded plug-in starts with the depletion of costs with limited regeneration at the high end of the load state (SoC). That's up to full regenerative abilities somewhere in the 70 to 95% range and spending up to about 20%. Once exhausted, it comes into the narrow payload range. Plug-ins add-ons meet the AT-PZEV emission standard, making it the only full-size V8 pickup with an AT-PZEV rating. Fuel economy in charge-depleting mode is more than 32 mpg -US (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg -imp ) in city driving. Ram 1500 PHEV is able to attract up to 6,000 pounds (2,700 kg).

20 first PHEV Ram demonstrators were sent in May 2011 to Clark County, Nevada and Yuma, Arizona, with 10 units each city. Other cities that receive PHEVs demonstrations are San Francisco and Sacramento, California, Albany, New York, and Charlotte, North Carolina. In September 2011, another 10 units were delivered to the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority (MBTA). 5 other units will be shipped to Central Hudson Gas & amp; Electrical and National Networks. DTE Energy in Detroit is scheduled to receive 10 Ram PHEVs.

Problems

Fire incident, Hybrid, 2012

In September 2012, Chrysler suspended a demonstration program. All 109 Dodge Ram 1500 Plug-in Hybrids and 23 Chrysler Town & amp; The country's plug-in hybrid used by the program was recalled due to damage caused by three separate pickup trucks when their 12.9 kWh battery pack was overheated. The carmaker plans to upgrade the battery pack with cells that use different lithium-ion chemistry before the vehicle re-operates. Chrysler explained that nobody was hurt from any of the incidents, and the vehicle was not occupied at the time, or one of the minivans was involved in any incident, but they were withdrawn as a precaution. The demonstration is a program co-funded by Chrysler and the US Department of Energy that includes the first factory production vehicle capable of reversing the power flow. The experimental system will allow fleet operators to use their plug-in hybrids to supply electricity to build during power cuts, reduce power usage when high electricity rates or even sell power back to their utility companies. The company reported that the demonstration fleet had collectively collected 1.3 million miles (2.1 million km) before the vehicle was withdrawn. Chrysler also reported that the plug-in pickup produced the highest average fuel efficiency of 37.4 mpg -US (6.29 L/100 km; 44.9 mpg -imp ), while Minivan plug-in hybrid produces 55.0 mpg -US (4.28 L/100 km; 66.1 mpg -imp ).

World market

By 2016, Ram trucks are available in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Europe and some Middle Eastern countries. Ram trucks are officially sold in many Latin American countries equipped with UNECE WP.29 lighting equipment, including taillights with separate indicator sein amber lamps.

No right-hand version is created for England, South Africa, and other countries where road rules are on the left. In 2016, the FCA begins selling Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 in Australia. These are converted to the right hand drive in Australia before sale. Prices start at $ 139,500 AUD (about $ 100,000USD).

Ram trucks are provided for the European market by Swiss company AutoGlobal Trade in cooperation with FCA. Germany and the Scandinavian countries are some of Europe's largest markets for Ram. The growing home industry in Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain has imported and converted Ram trucks to the right drive and to comply with local regulations, is becoming more common in Australia since LHD cars are less than 30 years old (or 15 years old if registered in Australia West) can not be legally mobilized on an Australian public road unless they are granted diplomatic exemptions or research and development of the rule. In the UK there are no such restrictions, so LHD Ram stock (or other LHD vehicles) are not required to undergo expensive and time-consuming RHD conversion process to conform to EU regulations.

Nissan Titan

After the fall of Nissan Titan sales in 2008, there was talk that the next-generation full-size Nissan pickup will be converted to Chrysler as the Ram 1500 version. Nissan has planned to stop Titan production in Canton, Mississippi. plant in 2010 with Nissan's new design just to take a taxi, body and interior on the Dodge Ram chassis assembled on the Chrysler truck assembly line in Saltillo, Mexico.
