Moraine Assembly is the General Motors car manufacturer in Moraine, Ohio, USA, suburb of Dayton. Originally opened as a Frigidaire equipment manufacturer from 1951 to 1979, the factory produced trucks for GM. Starting in 1981, it produced a small pickup Chevrolet S-10 along with Shreveport Assembly, then from 2001-2008 produced a GMT360 SUV. The third shift of production was abolished from Moraine effective in July 2006 following the announcement in November 2005.

Factory closure

On June 3, 2008, GM Chairman Rick Wagoner announced that the Moraine plant will be closed in December, citing high fuel prices and declining demand for SUVs and trucks manufactured by factories. There are no plans to reconfigure the plant to produce another product. The last vehicle that slid off the line was a white Envoy GMC.

Workers at the plant in Moraine were given a letter on October 3, 2008, informing them that the plant would close in December. It states that the last day of production is December 23rd. At that time, the factory employs 2400 people.

Initially, General Motors had planned several closing weeks in December. However, Lee said there will be no temporary closure and the plant will operate until December 23. IUE-CWA President Jim Clark said, "IUE-CWA is very disappointed with General Motors' refusal to keep the Moraine plant open.An announcement that the Factory will close much earlier than previously would have hurt our members, their families and the already shaken Dayton community by factory closures and layoffs. "

The factory closing was the subject of a short HBO documentary, The Last Truck: GM Factory Closure . It was filmed by local directors Steve Bognar and Julia Reichert with the help of several Moraine Assembly workers. In 2010 was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Documentary (Short Subject). It was lost to documentary Music by Prudence .
