A special set of jargon describes the tools, equipment, and job sectors used in the trucking industry in the United States. Some terms may be used in other English-speaking countries, or in the general shipping industry (air, rail, ship, and manufacture). For example, coastal power is a term borrowed from a dispatch terminology, in which electricity is transferred from shore to ship, rather than a vessel relying on idling. The image power of the ground line is more efficient than the idling of the engine and eliminates local air pollution. The other loan term is "landing gear" (from the aviation industry), which refers to the foot that supports the front end of the semi-trailer when it is not connected to the semi-truck. Some nicknames are clear word games, such as "portable parking", referring to the truck carrying the car.
