History
The museum opened on August 15, 2009, 60 years after the discovery of currywurst in 1949 by Berliner Herta Heuwer. The founder of the Museum, Martin L̮'̦wer came up with the idea for a museum during a vacation trip to Jamaica. There he visited an exhibition about roots and began to think about what kind of food would be popular in Berlin. L̮'̦wer considers currywurst to have a "cult status" in Germany and uses the fame of sausages as a justification for creating the museum.
